I am glad it all worked out for you!

I purchased a Free People "Best of Both Worlds" shirt with exactly the same tear, in the same place. It happened before I'd even had a chance to take the tags off, so of course I could return it no questions asked. Not purchased at Nordstrom, from Macy's. I wonder if this is happening with today's silky thin, non-silk shirts.

Hooray! You did it, and Nordies came through :-)

I always figure if it really is a manufacturing flaw -- like this clearly was -- and if hardly anyone returns the defective item, they'll never know and never improve.

Thank you for all of the advice ladies. I appreciate it. I just did a live chat with Nordstroms's and I am returning it. The person that helped me did tell me that quite a few of these had been returned and it was quality problem and to return it immediately.
Thank you for your help.

What IK said. If a customer followed the fabric care directions and gave the item usual wear, and especially if just a few wearings/washings (not taking it back 4 years later!), and multiples of these bloueses are separating from the trim, the buyer and company need to know.

I think you should call, or go to, Nordies and explain what happened. Then let them decide. It is one thing to give an item hard wear or damage it. It is another to have it disintegrate because it's been on a hanger.

Also, to speak from a manufacturing POV, sometimes it is good to learn if an item you made does not hold up so the problem can be fixed in the future.

Not Nordstrom, but a related story...

Back when I was losing a lot of weight, I didn't have a lot of clothes on hand, and I was in a Lane Bryant store wanting to replace a pair of jeans. The pair I had on were Lane Bryant jeans, but they'd shrunk so badly at the hems after only two washes, and I'd followed the cleaning instructions on the inside tag. I was looking around, thinking, "Maybe I should buy the long/tall" pants if I can find them. The SA asked if I needed help, and when I explained that the jeans had shrunk dramatically - she replaced them, on the spot at no charge to me. Back then, I did the great majority of my shopping at Lane Bryant because I was still in plus sizes, their service was good, their prices very reasonable for someone needing new clothes every few weeks. I was always so impressed that they instantly replaced those jeans for me, without my even asking.

I'm out of their sizes, but will still shop there for gifts (Mom) and accessories (me).

I strongly suspect Nordstrom would want to make the situation better somehow - either repairing the blouse, replacing it or issuing you a refund/store credit of some kind. If they can make you feel better about this, you'll keep shopping there and won't hesitate to buy things in the future. So, yes - I'd put the blouse into a bag and go visit their customer service counter. It can't hurt to ask, and you're not doing anything wrong by asking.

Get Nordies customer service on ICHAT through their website. They will let you return it. I just returned a worn pair of pants... sad because I loved them but they fell apart!!
Otherwise, if you love the blouse, it looks like you could try to get it fixed.

Repair seems like a good compromise, and if they can't do it (doesn't look like an easy repair), they should be willing to refund. Sounds like the blouse was flawed from the beginning. If you are a good customer, I would not hesitate to at least contact them.

Kalli - I personally would return any item, at any price point, if the store return policy permitted it, for such poor quality. If Nordstrom wants to attract my business by promising no-time-limit, no-questions returns, then I will NOT feel ashamed about an ethical use of their policy.

If a business can't afford such a generous policy, then they should change it--as most businesses have, since otherwise Nordstrom wouldn't be known for such exceptional service.

If this were a Forever 21 or other junior type fast fashion, I would chalk this up and say, "Well, what can one expect?" I would expect a blouse from Nordstrom, especially one they featured at NAS, to hold up better than that, and last at least a full year.

Not to be negative but as generous as the Nordstrom's return policy is and knowing that quality isn't what it used to be, you have owned this item for a year. Even if you haven't worn it much means it has been in your possession for the time that it depreciates. Good companies do stand by their product for a valid reason. Sorry to be on the other side but in order for business's to stay in business sometimes customers have to take responsibility of their own purchases. I myself would feel ashamed to return something a year later that I have washed and worn. Would you be doing this for an lower priced item?

I am usually pretty passive once I've worn something, but this separation of the fabric is a basic quality issue and difficult to repair, so I think it's fair to ask for some recompense if you have the energy. I would not tend to do that for something like a button coming off.

I bought this blouse at NAS and didn't wear it very often. I have washed it maybe twice and when I went to take it off tonight it is coming apart at the seam. It is not ripped it is literally coming apart. Should I try and return it or just forget about it.
It just makes me so mad that things don't even last a year and I take care of my things.
Opinions wanted and needed.
