ladyjules - another vote for a thin puff! :)

Glory - I'm not sure I've ever seen a raincoat with a fused fleece. Any brand recommendations?

Would a raincoat with fused fleece interfacing be the right weight? I have one that I use in spring and fall here in Ontario. I noticed there are many to choose from. Completely wind and waterproof.

I don't get hot in coats filled with dawn and they protect from the wind pretty well. That would be my top choice.

Wow! So many cool ideas!

Sandy - I've never really been in Lululemon. I will have to have a look-see!

Mauvish - Those are both lovely. The second makes me miss my old labcoat coat, and it's a much better colour for dog walking (the labcoat was whote, did I say?)

Joy - Good reminder. Noisy clothes truly bother me. I should go to REI.

El Cee - Great finds. I haven't had a London Fog trench in a long time, but it was of my best coats.

JAileen - I will check out Nanopuffs!

Anna - Very cool new coat. The idea of a field coat is very intriguing.

Firecracker - I especially like the high collar in the green coat. That is for me and my chilly self.

Betty, Unfrumped - Windbreakers - need to google this term (!)

Angie - Ok. I can't wrap my head around it: I do NOT have a THIN puffy. What kind of crazy talk is that? Uniqlo moves to the top of the To Do list...

For my dog walks I tend toward a Lululemon Dance Studio jacket that's long and has deep front pockets (for treats!), and is a stretchy material that blocks wind. It's more fashionable than my Eddie Bauer 4 pocket utility jacket, which comes out in bad weather.

When I warm up it's simple to take off the Lululemon and tie it around my waist. My base layer is a merino tee, either short or long sleeve, that keeps me comfy in quit a bit of weather.

Watch out for noisy fabric. I had an EB coat that rustled and crackled with every move. I hated it but had laid too much for it to not use it for awhile.

Another shoutout for the Eddie Bauer Year Round Field Coat (the one Firecracker recommended). I own it (in black) and it is a great mid-weight coat. I would also recommend a trench/raincoat with a zip out or removable lining. I own one from London Fog (no pic available), but here are some other similar coats.

I like the quilted style coats like these. Barbour is such a classic look, and I think the Eddie Bauer version is a really nice looking downmarket alternative.

We have a big wind factor so for dog walking I want something parka length and imperious to wind like a waterproof coat. I also like a hood option in case of a strong tail wind.
My favorite is a Columbia Omni-Tech waterproof and breathable parks that I bought at REI for Ireland. It has great pockets too and no belt. Leather is also good for wind protection.

I'm not sure what your everyday style is... but you might think about a barn coat. LL Bean has them with flannel linings, and some are more insulated than that. They really breathe.

In that kind of weather I usually do a trench with a sweater under it and a scarf, you can always let the trench hang open and ditch the scarf if the sun comes out or the wind stops. Also wool coats work the same way for me if it's a little colder with the option to let them hang open, but maybe with something thinner underneath...

For a person who runs cold, but it's really hot outside?

I ask because I was boiling up in my puffy (!) on this morning's dog walk (not a cloud in the sky), but am averse to the breeze. I don't want to wear a short, waist length jacket, feel my wool coats are also probably too much, and I'm afraid of going too thin...
