I adore this thread so much! It is so fun to be celebrating our bodies and our uniqueness. I will try to focus only on the positive this week, and hopefully I can carry this habit to the new year.

What I love about my body:

- first, I am very thankful that my body is in great health and I do not suffer of any disabilities
- being petite and dainty all over
- being a half pear and hourglass shape. It makes me feel SO feminine.
- my natural hair and skin color
- my almond shaped eyes. I also love that they are very dark and they sparkle more when I keep my hair its natural color, black. (My hubby is the one that pointed this out to me when I met him yrs ago and I have appreciated my sparkly eyes since!)

As I read through this thread, and contemplate what to write for myself, I realize that all the things I hate and am still apt to get frustrated about, are also things I have learned to love. Isn't that interesting?

I will leave out the "buts" and "even though's"..... I'm sure those who've come to know me will know what my "buts" are anyway!!!

I actually do love that I'm, um, pint-sized. Petite. And blessed with a baby face to boot (thank you, dad!)

I love my eyes, especially when I smile. I like how they turn green when I wear green, and other shades when I wear other colors.

I have always loved my lips - I have long believed they are the type of lips that deserve to be honored with lipstick!!!!

I love my chest - being able to fill out a sweater and look womanly. Good thing, when you are petite and pint-sized! I would not want to lose 10 more lbs for all the world... because I would lose my chest.

I actually love being a buttless, hipless wonder - "It's not my body ... it's the clothes." :-)

I love the skin on my face, which hasn't betrayed me, despite decades of smoking and sun-worshipping abuse in my teens. :-)

Resisting ...urge.... to add in all the but's....

Oh, this is so nice. I have been without internet for about a week (moving) and it's lovely to come back to the forum and see everyone appreciating the bodies they have! That's been a focus for me this week... I had a baby in February and in September starting taking karate. I am this week finally within my pre-preg weight zone and just feeling so appreciative of my body for what it has done this year.

I like: My collarbones, always my favorite. My hands and wrists. My height! Strong legs and toned arms (thanks to karate and carrying a baby all the time!). And my eyes. And I'm thankful for a husband who appreciates the parts I don't always like as much, thus raising my self-image!

Thanks for this thread, Antje. I agree... you ladies are all beautiful.

My strong shoulders, which I got from my mom
My calves
My collarbone
My waist and wearing clothes that accentuate it

Wow,
What an inspiring thread. I have spent so much of my life agonizing over my perceived faults and comparing myself to others. This is so difficult.
But here goes:
I like my toned arms, I can wear about any kind of sleeve.
I like my slim hips and how good they look in jeans.
I like my curvy backside.
I like my slim ankles.
I like my overall proportions and the fact that I can wear many styles.
I love my natural sense of color and proportion that has given me a lifestyle that provides me with such great creative freedom.
That felt good!

I'll add collarbones to my list too. And Patience your response reminded me of a couple of weeks ago when I was returning to the U.S. after about 40 hours of international travel. And the immigration officer asked me: "Are you bringing anything else into this country other than that lovely smile of yours"? Having become a citizen of the US only later in life, I always tend to tense up a little when going through immigration. It was such a refreshing comment and reminder to smile when I'm anxious - it helps me and others around me!

I like my smile. And how I have only one dimple

My goodness what a wonderful thread and what a wonderful bunch of ladies. It feels so uplifting to hear everyone speak so highly of themselves. Thankyou Antje for starting this thread. I hope this sticks and we can keep looking at ourselves in this positive light.
Now I have thought of a few more things I like about myself. At first I seriously only had my height to speak of. I love that my mind and body has been strong enough to be a union carpenter and bridge builder for 20 years, while raising kids. I love that my calves are nice looking and my thighs and arms respond greatly to exercise. I have a nice collarbone and I like my hazel colored eyes, and my nose is kind of cute too.
When I look in the mirror next time I dress this body, I'm going to look at all the things I like about it rather than the usual, other way around.

I know what you mean, Patience, I forget too and default to habitual ways of thinking! I tried your/the masseuse's recommendation last night as I fell asleep, of thanking/being aware of all that the parts of our body did for us that day. It was more fun than I would have thought, and actually, relaxing! I didn't make it all the way through before zonking out :).

I do love this thread. So uplifting. Thank you, Antje.

I love how strong my body is. Earlier this week, I deadlifted 175 lbs. That's more than my body weight. And last week, I bench pressed 110 for multiple repetitions. That means when I finally max, I'll be lifting even more than that! My powerlifting competition is in February so I'm in full training mode now. I fully appreciate the idea of thanking the body for what it can do each day.

But I also (finally) love how that strong body looks. I think it's an outgrowth of being in awe of its physical capabilities. In particular, I think the curve of my high butt is really hot. And like Patience, I really like my wrists. They're so dainty.

Antje - fantastic idea and it hits just the right spot for me this morning. Thank you.

Overall - I love that I am alive and mentally and physically healthy. So I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE *all* parts of my body. When I go for my Nia workouts, I become acutely aware each time of every muscle, every cell, ever fiber in my body that is in support of me. And when I feel physically present, I know I am completely in the moment.

More specifically here are some parts that I especially like:

- My thick, full head of hear - makes it fun to go to the hairdresser and experiment with different lengths, layers, styles and I know it will grow back soon if it's not what I like.
- The naughty twinkle in my eyes.
- My pug nose. I spent most of my adolescent years with a huge ugly complex and one of my biggest dreams was to earn enough money to have plastic surgery on my nose - the bane of my existence those days (oh for such problems again as our sole problems :-). Not so anymore - it's what makes me me.
- My smile which is helped by the near perfect formation of my teeth
- Long neck
- Being short - so that I can "fit" in a pushy (and proud of it), bossy personality

Yay, loving this thread! It is so great to read all the positive comments. Here is my list of things:

I like my eyes and long eyelashes
I like being petite
I like the color of my skin
I like that my body has some curves

This isn't related to my body, but I like that I have the confidence to try new looks or a completely different hairstyle. YLF has definitely inspired me in this area!

Thank you, Judy, for bringing up the body as instrument idea. I try to think of my body this way too, but I still forget. A women I work with and who used to be a masseuse (sp?) told me one time that every night as she is falling asleep she goes through each part of her body and thanks it for doing what it does. I think that was the first time I got this concept so clearly.

Isn't it hard to give yourself a little appreciation without a "but"? And doesn't it feel good? I love that many of you came up with whole lists of things they like about themselves. I was shy about it initially, which is why I only mentioned the calves. Now I'll admit that I like my round butt, too :-)

It is so uplifiting to read this thread!

My favorite body part is my hands. They are pretty, and they are helpful for writing Next is my eyes - they have blue, grey and green in them. They change colors like a mood ring. Having delicate features and frame makes it fun to dress up in edgy looks, and I enjoy that.

(True confession: while I was writing this I easily thought of half a dozen things I didn't like about my body and face, and it took me a long time to even think of one feature I liked. Why are we so hard on ourselves?)

Wow, great positive self talk here...it's a demonstration that we can just as easily do THIS as do the complaints, huh?

I kind of like everything about the body I have :)...I (now) am really in appreciation of it...and since I have a small frame, what works well for me is to wear things that go close to the body and show some shape!

One time I heard someone somewhere talking about shifting the focus with our bodies from conceiving of it as an object to being grateful for it as an instrument. It made so much sense to me. Instead of trying to get the body right, however we are right now is a body that has all these great senses and can adorn itself beautifully and is incredibly useful. It kind of makes you happy just to have one!

I am so impressed with the threads here these days! So inspiring. Good one, Antje.

From bottom up:

I love my small dainty yet tough feet. They get me around each day without complaining and manage to look great in most pairs of shoes.

I love my strong calf and hamstring muscles which have been toned from years of cycling, running, yoga and martial arts, and look great in a skirt or a pair of skinnies.

I love my curvy bottom, another side effect of cycling.

I love my tiny waist which looks great in dresses.

I love the numerous scars that cover my body which tell so many stories of bike crashes, hospital trips, pranks gone seriously wrong, illnesses, awful jobs in restaurants and the many hours spent with my friends doing the stuff that got me all cut up in the first place.

I love my collarbones- I just do.

I love my eyes; big, blue and lots of eyelashes.

Thanks Antje, it felt great to think about what I like about myself!

Oh I love this thread! I love positive people. I made a very difficult decision to drop a very negative friend from my life several years ago. I often remind myself to engulf myself in positive energy. I think that is why I love this place so much.

I'll start from bottom up, since so many of you working from the top down.

I love my feet--they are very cute and all my toes are in line. I love wearing sandals in the summer, and showing off a beautiful pedicure! I love that my feet are not fussy and I can wear heels and flats and just about anything inbetween.

I love my calves--they are muscular and strong and well defined.

I love my slim hips and that my rump isn't flat from the back.

I REALLY LOVE my C-Section scar because it's such an important part of me.

I like my neck--it's just long enough and well defined. I like my collarbone, because it's visable and sexy.

I like my crooked nose because it gives my face character. I like my eyes and I like my hair. Oh, and I like my eyebrows too.

Thanks Antje! That felt good!

i like that i'm a slim rectangle - sure, i'm not very tall (on the cusp of petite and regular), but i feel like my body is well proportioned enough that i can get away with most of my favorite styles :). and i like that i can get away with wearing very little or no make up. and i LOVE that i've finally come to terms with what i thought of as flaws throughout my teens - now i think my body is bangin' the way it is, and those who think otherwise, well, it's their loss ;).

I like that I'm still open to change - and that YLF has reawakened my inner ecclectic, who has been hiding for the past few years. I like that I am remembering that I used to love things like velvet blazers and tweedy vests. I like that I'm having fun with fashion again!

I like that my hair has many different colors in it naturally. I like my green eyes, freckles and my smile. I have finally come to like the fact that I am tall (it was a completely different story in high school when I towered over all the boys for a while )

Thanks, Antje!

Tamara, you reminded me about hair. I like how I have fine manageable hair that can go either straight or lightly wavy without a great deal of struggle (ok, "great deal of struggle" is a tricky term, it's hard not to insert a qualifier ). And that I have lots of it.

Antje, thanks for starting this thread!

This is interesting! I have started so many "I like" sentences, but man it is hard to stop a "but" or "except" from creeping in.

I like my hair (when just washed and behaving), my height and my calves and ankles.

Hmm, from the top down:
I like my eye lashes, lips, ears, shoulders, long arms, hands (long fingers, small wrists). I like my booty and long legs and for this reason I'm really enjoying skinnies and straight legs (thanks YLF!). Recently I started liking my calves and ankles for the first time ever and started wearing skirts and dresses (which I always shied away from) and patterned hose.

Overall, for the first time ever I feel confident and comfortable in my body (even though I'm still tempted to insert a few "excepts"). I think it's partly due to age, and also in no small part because of YLF

I like my calves, ankles and slim hips. This means jeans, heels, and pencil skirts. I also like that my coloring is great for wearing white. I also like my long lashes and green eyes. And to throw another different thing in-- I like showing my wrists. I don't really know what constitutes nice wrists but I like mine. Thanks, Antje, I only just thought of my wrists in coming up with a list for this thread.
