I love that emerald dress and I can totally see it on you.

That's great that plus sized models are being used for online shopping. I usually shop in B&M stores and meet my garments while they're still on the hanger. When I do shop online, I am amazed at how tall the models are. Really, it seems like they're from another species, although I know they are "real women" too. Well real young girls, anyway!

I have also been liking Talbots lately (we have an outlet store nearby which is so reasonable although you have to hunt of course) for their modern classics. I also appreciate all their sizing options - they have plus size petites which almost no one else has. Perfect for short waisted and legged women.

I have ordered and returned from them and they had free return shipping (last year) and good service as I ordered some red blouses in about four sizes to find the right one.

Just applied for a job at Ann T but I am not thrilled that they stop at 14 now and even 14's are hard to find in their stores.

While I understand why retailers and designers use "standard models," It would be so nice to see marketing that including women of all sizes -- wouldn't it be nice to be able to click on 3 pictures -- one of a smaller, petite woman, one a fit model, one larger? I'm sure that would be prohibitively expensive. Still, a girl can dream! I'm also glad to see Talbots become a little more classic, rather than the "traditional" look they had for so long.

Beth Ann, I totally agree!
When I look at a dress online and I have absolutely no idea what it would look like on an average height woman with curves, I don't want to waste any more time.
I want to see what it looks like in a 12 or 14 - which I guess is what Talbot's is doing. I think their models are a little older than the norm, too. Marketing :)
Talbot's styling skews a little conservative for me, but one of my favorite dresses is from there, so it's all in what you do with it.

Bethann,
Those are really beautiful dresses! They will look lovely on you. I have ordered from Talbots (pants which didn't fit) and was lucky enough to have a nearby retail store to return them to. I am not sure if they do free shipping on returns so you might have to ask.

Beth Ann, I am not plus size and that is one of Talbot's website features that I absolutely love. I also click on the Women's tab on an item I am interested in because I skew more to how a garment will fit on that model, especially in my bust, than the very slim, straight models that they usually use for their Regular size apparel. I have bought regular size items based on how flattering they fit on the plus size model and passed on items I liked if they were unflattering on the plus size model. The way their site is set up it makes doing that so easy. Very helpful for me in shopping online with them! In doing so, my success rate has been very high in being happy with how an item looks on me when it arrives.

Lovely dresses! Love the green!
I don't shop online! I'm very picky with the fit and here when we buy clothes the stores offer the tailor services, so I try and I ask for the alterations immediatly because most of my clothes have to be altered!

I've been browsing Ann Taylor and Talbots online recently. While I used to prefer Ann Taylor, recent changes to Talbots' design and price point are appealing to me, as is the fact that they have carry women's sizing. On average, I wear a size 12, but the clothing never looks on me as it does on the 6', size 4 models, though they are gorgeous. I like to check out the same item in plus size, if I can. The models are usually close to my size (which seems unfair to plus size customers), and I get a more "realistic" vision of how the clothing might appear IRL. (Love the dresses posted below)

Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen recommends reading magazines like More and O for similar reasons -- regular clothing on women or varying sizes and ages? http://www.wardrobeoxygen.com/.....cs-no.html

Anyone else do this? Are there sites that show petite models wearing their clothing?
