Caro I am the same in the US as I am in Australia, which means I'm mostly an 8 in both countries but Frye boots are all over the place & sandals allow my wider feet to sometimes fit into a 7 1/2. I recently bought shoes in Australia that were 39. They were Aussie shoe brands but made in Italy. Do higher end designers think it is better to use a sizing standard that differs to the Aussie system? I've been buying clothes that are sz 1 that are an Aussie 8. Why don't they just say 8?

I feel comfy in a UK 9, am a 42-43 and US 11-12 works. As De Vries notes, it also depends on the style. As you can see that while I measure a 42 here, I would get a 42 x-wide fitting in say Ziera, but I find I can go a normal fitting in 43, 9UK and 11.5/12 US... Yep its confusing!

Thanks Joy. Thanks Gaylene.

Maybe all these online shops will force designers/manufacturers to come up with a standard. I'm not holding my breath.

I'm a UK 8 and a Euro 42 as well, Caro. In American sizes, I find it really depends on the style of the shoe and the brand. If the shoe is closed and has a narrow toe box, I often find the 11 to be a better fit. If the shoe has an open back, is a sandal, or has a wide toe box, then I'll buy a 10. I think the actual corresponding US size would be a 10.5 which is not available in most brands. To complicate the issue even further, I find US sizing can vary quite a bit from brand to brand--in some brands, I can hardly squeeze my foot into a size 10, while, in other brands, the size 11 is enormous.

Caro, 8 in the UK looks like it's a 10 in US sizing. this chart from Zappos lets you compare with actual measurements in cm or inches.:

I am a 9, 9.5, or 10 in US sizes and I have always seen 41 as my Euro size. I have a wide foot so it depends on how the shoe is made as far as width. I would go with a 10.

I'm an 8 in the UK, 42 French & 41 Italian.
Would I be a US 10 or 11?
Some conversion charts say 10 & some say 11 so I'm confused.
