- My Aquitalia "snow" boots. Fantastic in the unusually cold winter we hare having. Picked them up on sale at the Rack after a big internal debate, and boy am I glad. Warm enough to wear with thin socks in single-digit temps without a hint of chill on my feet.

- Slouchy berets -- great for keeping my head warm without giving me hat hair when I remove them.

Cardigans...I have moved away from casual blazers because it's been so darned cold here. Cardigans as a third piece are more comfy and fit better under my coats.

My red shoes. I was very happy when I found them, and sure I would wear them enough for a decent PPW. I've been wearing them so much, I'm starting to pre- worry about what I'm going to do when they wear out.

Shorter skirts! At least for winter wear; I still much prefer longer, breezier midi-lengths in summer. My longer fall/winter skirts are going unworn, I'm debating having them hemmed up higher.

Tunics with leggings. I bought a Boden tunic at the beginning of the season and wear it all the time for evenings and weekends. It feels great to look good chasing little kids. I bought two more from Boden at their after Christmas sale and wear them all the time.

My pinstriped knee length shorts. The only non-gear shorts I own. I bought these several years ago, didn't wear them much and then thought I'd culled them before I found them tucked away in the back of the wardrobe. I have worn them quite a bit casually during the "pleasant summer" weather. Now the weather is getting too hot to wear them but when it gets a bit cooler I'll pull them out again

Skirts, because it's been unseasonably warm here and usually I avoid skirts even with tights when it's cold and rainy. Same with ballet flats; those usually get replaced with boots or sneaks when it's wet.

As far as trend-driven stuff, maybe more jackets and less cardigans.

Well, I'm surprised that the weather has cooperated enough for me to wear my woolens as much as I've been able to. Last winter I could barely wear them at all!

I'm surprised at starting to really like the dress & trousers look, and even wanting to wear my tunics as tunics (rather than tucked into my skirts like regular shirts). Oh and I've suddenly stopped hating how it looks when I tuck my shirts in to my trousers, at least when I add a jacket on top, as YLFers have been doing for ages now. Both of these surprises let me play with new combinations and silhouettes, so I'm enjoying that.

Blazers. I had two existing that got minimal wear - nice pieces, I liked them, but they felt a bit formal for my very casual style. But I've realized that they sub for a sweater on colder days. I also have gained some weight around the middle (carrying it a bit differently than when I was younger, so it's an adjustment), and I realized that blazers, worn open, are pretty forgiving of this in fit, camouflage both the weight and resulting slighly tight fit of the clothes underneath, and give me back some of the waist I'm missing. I've added another blazer this winter and have my eye out for more.
I also bought an oatmeal turtleneck on clearance, to push my boundaries a bit. I have never worn oatmeal before and I don't generally wear solid white, cream, stone etc, all of which there is a ton of this winter. Oatmeal turns out to be my white and it refreshed some existing outfits. Then it shrank in the dryer. I can't eve really wear it under a blazer (see above) because of dreaded horizontal boob line.

I'm proud of myself that I figured out how to wear sweaters in a moderate heat wave. You wear them only in the morning and evening, then change in the warmest part of the day. Not earthshaking, I know, but I found a way to give myself permission to enjoy my winter clothes even though the weather is uncooperative.

Please don't think I am mocking you frozen fabbers, no indeed. I have the greatest respect for you being able to weather the harsh cold and muck with your high spirits intact.

Yeah, Suz, the winter footwear situation is DIRE this year. I think I've worn my snowboots more this winter than in the past two winters combined. And my Blondos are already becoming the most worn boots in my closet, despite the fact that I've only had them for 3 weeks.
