As for toppers: Boleros and cropped sweaters will accentute your wasteline and the lengthening effect of the sheath/slip dress. Matchy reds or companion colors (pink or orange, depending on what flatters you) would look lovely. Texture and embellishments can add interest. But if you go leather, I choose white over black.
