It does look a little dull on........basically because I'm a pull my hair in a low ponytail, no earring, no makeup kind of girl.......I went to the jcrew outlet today and bought (3)1/4" wide bangles.....one cream, one yellow with polka dots, and one blue with polka dots.......I explained to the salesgirl what I had and what I was looking for......they didn't have really anything else to go.....I like the idea of boots but not for spring, or are they still ok for spring? I have brown leather high heel boots......

Hmmm. I have to say that we are trying too hard to make this dress pop. Does the dress look dull when you put it on as is? Is it too cold to wear as is? Can you add boots? I like it with the red shoes on the model in the original photo.

No, I don't think it's too matronly. It is very classic looking. I do understand why you want to add some color to the dress and have some alternative color options.

If you wear it with the orange/coral necklace and orange shoes..I would think that would be enough color. If you added one more orange thing to that, it would be too mitchy matchy.

So far all the color ideas have been great--citron, yellow, white and off white. How about Kelly Green for a little bit of preppy. Or deep pink? You can introduce color with a scarf, a belt, a cardigan, cami, shoes, jewlry, tights even hair accessories. It sounds like you have to work with what is in your closet right now--have you walked thru your closet with the dress in hand to see what colors jump out at you? That always works for me if I'm trying to change my color choices.

I am looking for the splash of color.....j crew showed it with a ribbed citron yellow turtleneck, which is fine in the winter......but I'm looking for now.....I wore brown boots with it and tights in the winter.....I kind of want it to be my go-to dress for all seasons, so I'd like it to look different, not like I keep wearing the same dress...its very classic......plus I can't afford to buy anything else now

I couldn't really see the dress in that photo, it was too small....but why do you need to wear a shirt underneath it? Are you looking for a splash of color around the neckline and at the bottom of the sleeves?

What about tights? Can you add in some textured tights? And what about a cardigan over the dress instead of a shirt under? I wish I had seen it with the orange shirt that JCrew combined with it--it would give me a better idea of why you want a shirt under it.

Thanks, you're right.....something underneath has to be pretty fitting. It has 3/4 length sleeves the same material as the dress.......it can look matronly I guess, although its so comfortable and the material can't be beat, that's why I was trying to pull a look together......I don't have to pull a look together often so I was looking for advice....thank you!

That's a cute dress--I remember trying it on in the store but it didn't fit me properly. :(

If I remember correctly, the dress was an Italian wool, but was very lightweight and silky. I think it might be tough to find a great shirt to wear underneath, because most of what you have will probably be bulky (I am thinking anything with excess fabric, or anything with buttons) and make the dress look bumpy underneath.

My best suggestion, knowing the fabric of the dress, would be a very form-fitting cami if you must wear something underneath, or else no shirt at all (I think the sleeves are sheer, right? If so, that might make a short-sleeved top look odd). If you go the cami route I would probably avoid orange--I wouldn't want to be too matchy-matchy, since you already have the orange shoes and necklace. If it is a good color for you, I would probably choose a cream or eggshell color, which would work nicely with orange and the navy of the dress.

Hi, I enjoy buying classic style clothes because I don't get to buy clothes often - I splurged and bought a Jcrew Linda dress in navy blue. Its a basic dress. I plan on wearing it to Easter services and lunch this weekend. I am having a hard time making it look better? On the jcrew model they showed a bright yellow turtleneck under and some flats....my legs look better in heels, so I bought some orange "linen" looking peep toe shoes and then a red/orangey/coral chunky stone necklace. I'd like to add a shirt to go under the dress but can't seem to find a nice material to coordinate etc........does all this look right together?
