shana -- you hit the nail on the head: "dowdy" is the word I couldn't think of to describe how I envision the loafers with a skirt. Maybe if the skirt is a few inches above the knee, it could be a funky look.

Once I find some clams that fit, I am eager to try them on with the shoes! I do have a super-light denim pair, but not sure whether they would work.

The others have great suggestions. I am curious to see them with clams - I bet that would be a cute look. Personally, I think you have to be careful about wearing them with skirts - they can easily look kind of dowdy.

loulou -- I need to get me some clams! One reason I picked out that Sweet Pea top was because of the green in it, to match the shoes :)

HannahC -- Green is definitely a fun color! It's great to break out of the black and brown shoe box. I see what you mean about a skirt; I'll have to experiment with that, and stick with pants of different lengths for now.

Isn't green so fun for shoes? I never expected that apple green shoes will be so versatile, but they go with practically everything in my wardrobe (of course, part of the reason might be that my clothes are mostly blue and purple, but still). I'd say they will be great with clams and walking shorts, and maybe even with a slightly above the knee skirt (though, it might be a bit tricky, as the shoes are by no means delicate). Oh, and of course dark denim is pretty much foolproof with these. Enjoy your new shoes, they look great!

Thanks for your suggestions -- sounds like they really can go with everything! I'm just used to thinking that loafers go with long pants, so I need to experiment, like you say Amy.

bellacville -- I had forgotten about those photos of S. Those are great, and are giving me some good ideas

S from academic chic has a similar pair of super cute loafers. She's been sporting it with all sorts of outfits. Check it out:

I love green! And these are fun!

I second Chewyspaghetti's suggestions: skirts (patterned, dark-wash denim, a white pencil skirt...) clams, dresses, straight-legged and bootcut jeans, trousers jeans, tunic + leggings...

i think you can wear them with anything, and any color.

I have a pair of green shoes that I LOVE wearing when the colors in the rest of my outfit don't match at all!

Do a bit of experimenting, have fun with it!

I've been a boots-and-sandals kind of girl, but would like to "push the envelope" and expand into flats, such as loafers. I don't do ballet shoes because I think they look strange on me, but maybe that's because I'm not used to them.

Anyhow -- I like the idea of shoes adding a pop of color to an outfit, and I was inspired by HannahC's apple green flats, so when I saw a green pair of Me Toos for $25 at Marshalls, I picked them up. So comfy!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com.....49.jpg?v=0
http://farm4.static.flickr.com.....39.jpg?v=0

But whatever do I wear with them? I have no problem matching colors, but can't think of anything beyond long pants. So I am looking to you all for help!

P.S. Ignore the funky, non-YLF-approved length of pant I am wearing in the photo.
