If you have any faux patent (or pleather) sandals, they are good in the rain. I would go for wovens in natural fabrics. Ye olde dark denim skirt is a good item since it can get wet and not show through, you don't need a slip, and it's cooler than shorts. Definitely cotton jackets and not sweaters (which can feel gross in the humidity). I wouldn't worry about a raincoat, just an umbrella.

we are going to new orleans at the end of october, and i hear it can be both very hot, and also rainy. i am used to cool and wet weather, or warm and dry weather, but not hot and wet! what should i wear? was planning to bring sandals, but might need something waterproof (but not too warm) for rain? what sort of jacket?? do any of you live in new orleans? wonder what the natives wear when it's both hot and wet.
