I settled on a sexy look with a top more low-cut than my normal conservative mother of three sons look, paired with my leather skirt and zipper detail heels. I even went for a push up bra!!! My husband loved it...Unfortunately our friends can't make it as she has to work at 5am for a 13 hour day to give her boss the day off for her b'day and two hours of sleep wouldn't work... It plays monthly so will put that outfit aside.. piictures when I actually wear it! May have to wait unitl September if the next showing conficts with my Nags Head, NC vacation mid August.

Thank you for the fun suggestions and stories, You all rock!

Mmm. I gonna vote for the Mickey ears. You can wear anything as long as you're wearing those.

You can't go wrong with leather and fishnets but I am intrigued by the Brad & Janet idea!

Actually, I think MNsara has a fun idea. You guys could go as Brad and Janet from early in the movie. Just act really nervous, and walk like a chicken when you go into the thater. Maybe mist your hair and clothes really well as soon as you get out of the car, so you will look like you got caught in the rain.

I remember my very religious cousin telling me that her rather, but not quite as, religions children had been cast in a high school version of the musical. I was very confused, and kept asking for clarification, searching her face for any reluctance, worry, consternation, etc. But nope. I even asked her if she had seen it during her younger days, and I'm pretty sure she said yes. We were rambling around a vintage store at the time, and she was looking for costume pieces for her kids while we rambled. I'm still kind of confused by that incident. The only explanation that makes sense is that the high school version had been cleaned up to such a degree that it no longer could bother her or any of the other parents. But then...what would be left? Just a rain storm, a mad scientist creating a living person in a lab, and some aliens getting out of Dodge, I suppose. And a lot of altered lyrics.

Ha, or you could go as the Susan Sarandon character (Janet?) in the beginning, skirt, little blouse, cardi, clutching little bag, etc.

Funny story: we saw this numerous times when early married, so this past winter it came up that our youngest has never seen it. We figured it's a classic (duh!) so sat down to watch it with him. I clearly did not remember this from a parental view!! I cringed through parts of it, and he drily commented more than once 'well, that was awkward'. He's 18-y.o. so it wasn't like having a child watch it, but those sorts of movies are best watched with friends, not parents

A leather skirt with fishnets and heels with zippers sounds like a perfect start. Buy the cheap fishnets, so you can rip them up a bit without feeling too much pain. And if standing in fishnets hurts your feet the way it does mine, you can wear socks under your fishnets. If the shoes are lower cut, wear the little footy kind of socks so they don't show, or choose a color that blends into the shoes or into your skintone.

Keeping with the leather theme is perfectly in tune with the mood of the moving. You could use an eyeliner pen to write "LOVE" and "HATE" on your knuckles. :-)

Smoky dark eyes and big messy hair would fit in with Magenta nicely. You could add a white apron if you have one, although that veers into costume territory.

You could also add some sequins or something in gold lame' to the mix, ala Columbia. Crazy false eyelashes, especially in a funky color, would also be a nice touch.

Of course, if you want to go a bit more theatrical but without the commitment, a feather boa is always appropriate. You and your husband could take turns sporting it, so long as he is a sport about it. The plus side to the boa is that you can ditch the boa if you want to go to dinner or a bar beforehand, but aren't quite ready to subject the non-Rocky crowd to your full on fabulousness.

I think some people dress quite OTT. What you describe sound good. How about some fishnets?

Been a long time since I went in my twenties...
So, what to wear that stops short of being a costome but appropriatley part of the fun?
