lol...thanks so much for your suggestions i ended up wearing dark wash trouser jeans, high-neck blouse, studs, retro heels, cardi, and bronze clutch. it was perfect!

a basic formula really makes things easier & less stressful, doesn't it? thanks again for your ideas. hopefully this will help others out should the occasion arise!

I was going to say just what christie said: dark uniform wash slim fit jeans, nice blouse in whatever your style is (ecclectic, earthy, whatever), and either a cardigan or structured jacket to throw on top.

If the top you choose is not apprpriate for work you can keep the sweater/jacket closed during the day and open it for night. Then throw on some fun statement accessories after work, maybe switch bags if you like, and off you go. Another way to go day to night is to switch your shoes. Something more basic/casual for work, and then switch into statement heels for dinner.

Whatever you wear do not fail to accessorize yourself. That way, all the attention will be drawn towards your accessories rather than the dress itself. Wear some chunky jewelry in contrast to your dress color for a dramatic effect.

Cyan - smart casual gets my vote too. Another thought is to dress up whatever you have with a statement accessory: jewelry, scarf, watch, belt, bag OR shoes. Have fun at the dinner!

What do you wear to work? I think smart casual would be a good idea, and it would keep you warm. You could try a pair of straight leg or boot cut jeans in a dark, dark wash, a nice pair of heels, and pair it with a nice, funky blouse and cardigan.

What about a dress like this:

http://aimee920.meeli.cn/uploa.....42e95d.jpg

You can wear a jacket over it for work and take it off to the party. Have fun!

hi again,

you have been so helpful and kind with my many inquires, could you please endure one more for the week?

my bf's brother's fiance (whew) invited me to dinner at a swanky chinese fusion place next tuesday. we are located in the CA bay area, and have had some cooler evenings than usual.

i'll be coming straight from work, but can change if needed. what should i wear?

i *have* to post body type pics, but for now, my stats:

5'4"
hourglass (i think, with possible lower-body pear action)
A/AA bust
slim body frame
short torso

i feel best in pencil skirts/dresses + heels. i like my arms, waist, legs, booty and long hair, so hopefully that will compensate for lack of a bosom *sigh*

i'm kinda homey & artsy, so i don't have much 'club/lounge' designer/rich looking attire...if possible, i'd like to look classy and youthful, but not tarty!

please work your suggestion magic! any tips or references would be much appreciated. i'm so lost! thank you so much...
