Unless you are performing a dress is likely not required. I'm sure dressy separates, accessorized correctly, would be perfect!

I think pants are perfectly appropriate-something in silk or fluid fabric would be nice. Add a dressy top, high heels, nice clutch and you are set. Or You can definately still use your lace dress as bj suggested-you can do lightweight jacket over it, pumps, dangly earrings, etc. Or as Lynn said, blouse and skirt is fine too-I tend to stick to separates for dressy occasions because it can always be worn again in all kinds of different combinations(as opposed to cocktail dress)

why not use a dressy topper onver the lace spaghetti strap dress?

I would think a nice blouse and skirt would look quite appropriate for a recital - the ones I've been to, the only people in an actual "dress" that was expected are the people performing.

It's a bit chilly, plus this event might be somewhat conservative in nature, so my black lace spaghetti-strap dress might be inappropriate. I have an odd assortment of dressy separates. Is a "dress" required, or might the right combination of a blouse and skirt be okay with dressy heels?
