Around here reunions are casual events, so if I had a reunion in a cold wet day while using a cast I would probably use some flared jeans or wide leg pants, a black boot with a low comfortable heel on my healthy foot, a beautiful shirt in a flattering bold color, a black blazer or leather jacket and some eye-catching jewelry to look a little more "well dressed". And I would improvise a black boot of sorts for my cast foot with some wool or flannel and my dad's motorcycle rain gaiters :)

[I know this is an 6yr old post, but it is still nice exercise for imagination]

Shorts or a short skirt with tights on other leg. It is a real head snapper. My theory is if you wear a cast show it off. Drives guys crazy. Low heel on other foot.

Been there, done that. Wear a dress, tights or hose with one leg cut off, and a shoe or boot on the other foot that matches the heel height of the cast so you don't hurt your back from too much uneven walking.

Wow, sorry to hear this and good on you for not letting it interfere with your social life! I would probably just wear what you normally would (perhaps skip the stilettos if those are normally your thing!) and hack as necessary to accommodate the cast ... no need to hide it; your good sportsmanship about coming out will be the highlight!

Sorry to hear about your surgery, I hope it's a speedy recovery. If you're handy with a sewing machine, you could buy some coordinating fabric and fashion a sleeve to cover your cast. Or have a tailor do it for you. I've seen it done and thought it was brilliant.

Thigh highs might work for the non cast leg. I might opt for a midi skirt or dress for more coverage. You'll need a low heel that balances your cast. Honestly, people will understand so wear what you are comfortable in and maybe add a blingy top or necklace to draw the attention to your face. Of course if you really want to have fun I'd totally dress up the cast with jeweled pins or necklaces (might not be so practical, but what a conversation starter!)

i would wear jeans that fit over the cast and a comfortable shoe like a hi top converse. put a sock over your toes if you don't want people to stare.

I agree with both the suggestion about the dress and the possibility of wide leg pants depending on what flatters you more.

Ouch. Sorry, Melody. Good luck with the surgery.

I’m with Louise. Frock, hose (cut off the other leg of the hose), jacket and a heel. Dress as you normally would.

I would prefer wide-leg pants that will go over the cast so it's covered and doesn't get as much attention. Is that an option for you?

I have never had a cast, but I would think a skirt would be easier than pants. Will your entire foot be covered in the cast as well? Would you only be wearing a shoe on one foot? Since you probably won't be putting any weight on one of your feet, I would practice with various heel heights--if it doesn't bother you to wear a heel on your weight-bearing foot, then go for it.

My only concern is what you do to cover your leg, since you say it will be cold. I think if it were me, I might wear a knee-high boot on the non-cast leg. But I'm not sure if that would look odd or not--you might have to experiment. The one thing I will recommend you don't do is pull a Sonia Sotomayor. She was in a cast during her confirmation hearings and wore black hose on her non-cast leg--I thought it looked very awkward, but more because you could see the skin on her non-hose leg. If her skirt was a little longer and didn't show the bare skin, I don't think I would mind hose or tights on the non-cast leg.

Ithink a dress will probably be more practical to get over a leg cast. Perhaps really go to town with fantastic accessories so the focus is taken off the cast. Flatties will be a must along with a coverup to keep warm x

Soon I shall be having surgery on my ankle that will require me to be in a leg cast with crutches. My old grammar school is having a reunion next month at a nice catering hall and I would like to attend. The weather shall be cold. However, I don't know what can I wear? A little black dress? How do I go about wearing panty hose or heels? Pant suit? How do I get the pants over a cast? Oh the logistics of trying to look nice...
Thank you!
