I would mostly stay in your comfort zone with the artsy look. It is really very hard to pull off without looking forced if that is not part of your style. Your husband sounds like he is fairly classic. I think great proportion and an current silhouette is the key. Sack dress and booties with gloves sounds fun. I do not know why that just came to mind. Jewelry is always helpful- I love wide cuff bracelet and a metallic clutch. Vintage is also a great way to be unique, depending on the fit and condition. I have to be careful not to look like an art school student with ill-fiitting or less than pristine vintage clothes.I have seen so many styles of dress at all kinds of openings. Some artists are surprisingly conservative. Add:</p> <p>1. Microfishnets<br /> 2. Strappy high heels (metallic?)<br /> 3. A clutch (better for juggling drink and handshakes) in a bright pop of color<br /> 4. A statement necklace - something artsy<br /> 5. Bring a cheeky jacket in case you get chilly... leather, denim, BF jacket, all could work. </p> <p>You could also be more daring and pick a dress in a color other than black. There will probably be a sea of women in LBDs, so why not stand out? </p> <p>I would not dress up as formal as you would for a wedding.
