Thanks Ledonna. A wrap or scarf is a good idea. We are going on one of the evening desert visits and I have read that it can be very cold so I guess I need to consider that too.

I lived in Kuwait and traveled to Dubai many years ago. It was hot even in October when the sun went down. You should wear light loose layers. carry a headscarf or covering just in case.

Rachelou thanks for the great link and I'll be sure to pass on your regards to Ms Hilton when I see her!
Jenanded thanks for your practical suggestions. Yes I find linen pants tricky but I will check Trenery .I'll also search Imogen's posts.
Maneera thanks for the reassuring comments. .I may end up making the best of what I've got but I think I will find it very hot!
Appreciate all your kind advice.

Hi Kia. My sister went to Dubai last October. She wore her regular clothes pretty much....shorts, jeans, tops and shirts. But then - we are used to those temps because India is almost equally hot and we live in aircon 8 months a year

I was only there transiting 48 hours ago. It is HOT for one thing. I really liked Carters suggestions for slim pants and tunic. For a pear sometimes that is the 'wrong' shape (kind of opposite). Trenery usually do a linen pant with a zip front - sometimes slimmer sometimes wider leg. I would then go a cotton or linen top with sleeves, whether tunicish or shirt. The other proportions I like are on Surafina with their drapey pants and hi lo shirts surafina.com.au. Also Imogen had a sponsored trip there maybe a year or so ago and she did several posts about outfitting. PS the airport is very cool with beautiful etched glass. Emirates lounge is very high end. It is such a fantastic array of dress in one location! And they do have western toilets in the airport!

I think this is a pretty good article blog post about the subject: http://shedreamsoftravel.com/2.....-in-dubai/

I've known a number of people who've gone to work in Dubai, and it sounds about right. Never been myself.

Oh, and for a lark, there is Paris Hilton's BFF Dubai show (on Hulu). My guess is she doesn't get into trouble because she just stays in her own hotel, lol.

My best friend recently moved to Dubai. She was told to cover shoulders and knees out of respect. Based on some of the pics she's sent, many younger women don't follow the same rules. As I type this, it is 7:58am and 100 degrees in Dubai. Be thankful you aren't going until October! I would think that linen or cotton might be your best bet, even in October. I might wear slim pants and a linen tunic/top.

I have seen some stunning pictures of the city. Some of the architecture is breathtaking. You might enjoy a ferry ride to see some sights or a camel ride on the beach for a good story to tell back home. Today, I got pics of bins and bins of herbs and spices from the spice souk...something I would definitely want to see in person if I had the chance. And the food! You should see the amazing pictures she sends of the food!

Have a wonderful trip!

Kia Ora from New Zealand. Loving your NAS posts...one day when I win Lotto, I am going to pop on over to do my shopping with Angie by my side!In the meantime it's almost as good watching from afar.
My question is..we are stopping over in Dubai on the way home from a trip to England, Ireland and Spain ..Dubai early October. We'll only be there two nights but from what I can see there are two considerations. One is the need to dress appopriately for the culture as a visitor. Secondly I need to be covered from the sun..I've had a brush with melanoma.... .but still cool.I am a definite pear with apple tendencies *thanks to menopause or maybe chocolate .I'm quite tall..5ft 8.I though maybe some loose linen pants and top..but me and elastic or gathered waists hate each other. Have any of you traveled to Dubai and-or have any suggestions? Ps I do buy online so open to all ideas! Many thanks in advance. .and happy shopping to the NAS ladies!
