How exciting! I'm jealous (too bad I dont play any instruments!! Which reminds me, my daughter needs to practice the piano!!)

I think how you decide to dress will depend on the kind of music you guys play--if you have an era or genre that you are associated with. Also, the venue will come into play too.

I'd definitely go for something theatrical, sexy and fun! Who knows when you'll have the opportunity to do this again??? (Please no Stevie Nicks inspired outfits though! hee hee)

grennglove: awesome! thanks so much for your ideas, i'll check out the new yorker STAT. i have a vintage top (lots of embroidery, high neck) but it is too short to wear as a dress. unless it's a micro-mini! hahaha.

anyway, i have a pair of anne klein knee high black boots and doc marten knee high red boots. both have a heel, not too crazy high. too 'everyday' or in the realm of possibility?

alecia--the band plays kinda metal at times (low throaty screaming, lol), some acoustic ballad-ish numbers (a la 'power chords'), etc...it's pretty eclectic. i tend to play during the acoustic (guitar + piano) songs, but we've also layered strings over heavy electric guitar/drums for the contrast.

the sound is similar to that aerosmith music video with the lush orchestra in the background (can't remember the name). not THAT incredible of course, but with multiple takes and the layering effects of garage band, even *I* was surprised how good it could sound, lol!

i'm also wondering about makeup. should i pop by mac at the mall and try out different looks? and what about hair? i have long waist length dark brown, slightly wavy, works well with hot rollers or straight iron.

thanks again!

Wow,
First of all, congratulations on your gig, that sounds so exciting! What you wear on stage needs to have more drama than what you would wear on the street. The New Yorker just came out with a section on fashion based on music and rock. It is called FASHION ROCKS. It is a supplement to the fall edition. You might want to check that out. I think that the contrast of feminine with edge would be a good look, example ruffles with a biker jacket.
I would suggest contrast in color, black and white with red or any bright accent. It needs to read from a distance. This is a place where anything goes. It would of course be best to express the mood of the music,
I think that being the only girl , it would be important to bring out the feminine, how about a vintage lace dress, with boots?( Leather and lace without the sleaze factor) I would try to get inspiration from performers that you admire. Would love to see what you come up with, I am sure others will have great ideas.

i just finished playing backup instrumentals (violin and piano) for my friend's rock band cd recording! they invited me to perform with them live at their cd release party in a few months. it's so exciting--and fulfills one of my lifelong dreams, lol.

anyway, as the only chick of the group, i haven't a clue what to wear. the guys tend to wear black & red, untucked work shirts with ties...i'm more feminine and sweet than edgy and sharp, if that makes any sense. but i'd love to explore the rocker chick look...any tips?

many thanks.
