Hi bstrick, welcome to the forum! Your book club sounds fantastic! I like all the suggestions above.

If you like we could help you look online for a dress. What type of dress do you prefer (sleeveless, length, style...?).

I really love the idea of a pencil skirt or A-line skirt with a lovely blouse or top too. Or perhaps even a nice pair of walk shorts paired with a dressy top and wedge sandals? You could always throw in a cardi in case you get cold in airconditioned houses etc.
A lovely necklace or bracelet (or earrings) always help spice things up too.

Thanks Joy for the suggestion of the denim pencil skirt. I ordered one. Dresses were hard to find. I just can't find one that doesn't look too young or too mother of the bride. I think the suggestion of a wedge sandal is great. It is sure harder to pull together a look when you are over 50 - not too young, not too old. Dressing for a Southern climate is also difficult.

As an over 60, I'd also suggest a dress with cardi or jacket for air conditioning. I love jean jackets with dresses. If you have trouble finding a dress, you might try a dark denim pencil or a-line skirt and woven top. Add some pretty wedge sandals maybe in metallic or nude (tan, beige, dusty pink, grey, etc.that blends somewhat with your skin tone) color.

I'm a fellow fifty-something, and just this summer I got reacquainted with dresses. (I wonder what it is about our age range that we stopped wearing dresses?) Anyway, for a hot summer day, nothing beats a dress. And I felt like most sundresses weren't age appropriate until I realized a lightweight, short-sleeved cardigan works beautifully to add some coverage.

I love the new site. I have been lurking for awhile, and have learned so much.(I now own three new pairs of gap jeans - thanks to Angie's suggestions. Now I have a qestion. I belong to a book club with some older Southern women. I am the youngest member (I am in my 50's). These women are brilliant (reviewing excerpts from Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations) and always immaculately dressed, yet casual. (Linen, a great piece of jewlery and handbag) You can tell they are not shopping in our small town. I just can't seem to pull off the look - I am more of a jeans and t-shirt type. It is about 90 degrees here. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you
