I work full time, so what works for me may not work for you.  I am pretty busty, so while I do like buttons downs, I have not found one under $100 yet that works for me. And I have tried a lot! My go to are knit tops, but in a nice fabrication. I live v-necks a lot, but I have also found boat necks and certain cowl necks to be very flattering. Peplum tops are also terrific and on trend. My go-to stores for tops are Banana Republic (they are currently running a huge in-store only sale), Ann Taylor (they currently have 40% off all sale items, 30% off all full price), and Talbots. Belts, a great shoe (loafer, slipper flat, sassy sneaker, cute sandal) and (crossbody) bags are other ways to add some polish to a casual outfit. I have found some finer knits work. I have some more expensive ones for work which I would never wear at home. But my favourits was only $14 at a chain store so have less issues about it having an incident. I also look for different guages in the jersey knit, or in the neck edging, some have woven fabric panels. And of course the silky t's Angie has been showing and I want to try the nostalgia t as well. This is my first post, and its a request for some guidance from all of you  have inspired me so much while I've been lurking here. I'm a stay at home mom, with not much occasion to dress up, but Ive really been trying to kick it up a notch. I find thats more easily accomplished when the weather is cool, because layering always makes an outfit feel more well planned and deliberate. But now its warmer. ugh. So, I enjoy a dress now and then, but when I'm volunteering at the school or doing more active errands, my uniform is jeans and  a vneck tee. I've tried button-down blouses, but I always have gapping at the bust, or they're too oversized to  be attractive. I've tried shell blouses, but the round neck line, imo, isnt as slimming as my preferred vneck or cowl neck neckline. Can anyone point me in the direction of some tops that can be worn without a jacket to help dress them up? Thanks so much!
