We are basically the same age (I'm 48), height (5' 10") and weight (150). I agree that it is advisable to post a photo, I am also a rectangle, which is the shape you described, with a slight pear tendency. I wear everything from jeans and dress slacks to skirts and dresses. Heels, flats, boots, sandals and Converse sneakers. There are many brands of shoes available that are comfortable and stylish. I find tall sizes at Banana Republic, J Crew, and, sometimes, Eddie Bauer. Other stores, like Express, and NY&Co., also carry tall sizes -- I think Ann Taylor Loft does, too. You definitely want to look for things that emphasize your waist, or create the illusion of a waist. Belts can work well, but it's also important to watch where things hit you. Look at some of Angie's posts for rectangles, and also look at some of the outfits people post -- there are so many great ideas and examples here. For me, the important thing has been identifying the shapes and colors that look best on me, and then buying basic items that are good quality and fit perfectly (sometimes tailoring is required) and then building around those basics. Now, in our late 40s, we have to be careful of anything trendy, but that doesn't mean we can't be fashion forward!

Can you post a photo of yourself? You will get lots of help from the YLF ladies!

I am your same age and cannot believe the help I have received.

They start with body shape so that is what the photo is for.

I'm a 49 year old, 5'9", 145-150lbs. Not sure of how to dress anymore. Problem with finding pants that fit properly without being to short, blouses that fit to tight or the arms are not long enough and finding shoes that look nice and are comfortable. Would like help in becoming a more fashion oriented individual for my body type in which I describe as being straight up and down with few curves.
