Great remixing. And especially what Joy said. If you have a renewed interest in their true cor, then keep as is.Otherwise I've had some success with shoepolish as Joy noted,to tone down a color.

I'm glad you could make them work! I'm curious, did you roll the bf jeans so they hit the top of the boot, or did you tuck them? I'm always a bit stumped with this issue.

I'm glad that you are keeping them. If you ever want to change up the color a bit without dying them, just polish them with brown or cordovan shoe polish paste (like Kiwi)...rubbing in with a soft cloth and then rubbing with a clean rag. The leather will absorb some of the darker color and they will be more brown.

Well, I wore them today for a very casual errand-running kind of day, and the verdict is that I'm keeping them.

I wore them with BF jeans, white tank, light blue chambray shirt, a patterned scarf and my J Crew tipped pea coat. Got compliments on the coat and the boots. :-)

I discovered the thing that makes them work is a patterned scarf that has a bit of that color/tone in it, and it so happens that I have at least 4 or 5 that work, in varying weights and prints. So yay for figuring out how to rescue a closet orphan!

Oh, one of the errands I ran was taking six big shopping bags of clothes, shoes, and some other accessories to the Goodwill. These were purged over the last few months. Whew!

Thanks, all!

I'm going to rotate these to the front of the closet to give them more prominence, and try them for my next casual walking around day with jeans. I like the shape -- they are casual classic, after all. I'm just so used to "matching" footwear. I can see how treating these kind of like my tan cowboy boots could work.

It's funny, I'm more reluctant to let go of these than some others I have that were more expensive but have high heels and therefore lack the comfort factor these have. I like my higher heels, but they don't quite allow me the spontaneity in my day I often prefer (oh, there's an old Hudson truck in that field -- I'm going to walk out there to photograph it, but not in suede 3" platform boots!).

You have lots of great advice already, but I would say try the suggestions above with your current wardrobe. See if you love the boots enough to add to regular wear. If that is going to be a struggle, I would dye them. The shape is fab, and you said they are comfortable. I hate giving up on comfortable fashionable footwear!

Maybe with jeans and if you had a scarf that is multi-colored (like a wonder scarf!) that also has this tone? I don't think you have to have an exact match per se, just something that links the boots to another aspect of your outfit.

Janet, do yu want to wear this colour? Do you like it? If not, they are cool boots which I think would be fab with jeans, in particular, so I would be inclined to dye them:)

I just think these boots are great fun! I agree they would look lovely with burgundy or I'd really like to see them paired with aquamarine. I think the two colours would look smashing together. Don't give up on these babies just yet.

I used to have Frye carson booties (sadly uncomfortable) in that color and wore them with bare legs and skirts as a nude. Although admittedly my skin tone is a lot closer to mustard than yours!

Thanks for the suggestions, ladies!

I think one of the problems is they've been buried in my closet. As spring approaches I'm trying to take a hard look at what footwear I've been passing over, and possibly making some hard purging choices. I have some other fab unworn things that I spent much more for than I did these, and I'm wondering if their time is up. Perhaps I will post some photos for feedback later in the weekend.

They are gorgeous booties, but I see what you mean about color. I have similar colored ones but in my case they bookend my hair.
Do you wear white/cream tops? It might be enough of lightness to sort of match them.

I'm posting a pic of these Miz Moos booties I've had for a couple of years. They were second hand so very inexpensive (I think $20). Even though they are quite comfortable and I like the style, I never reach for them because the color is just not part of my typical palette. It's kind of mustard-y, and I wear absolutely no yellow, very little orange, and gravitate to cool colors instead.

Should I:

a) just try them with one of my usual outfits as a contrast, not trying to match anything?
b) try dyeing them?
c) give them away?

Due to the lighting in here, the pic actually makes them look almost light cognac-ish. I would probably wear them if they were! Maybe that would be a relatively easy dye job?
