Thanks everyone. I've never sprayed before, and even though I purchased the spray from Nordstroms. I was afraid of ruining my booties. I feel more comfortable now that I have instructions.

I use the waterproof spray from Nordstroms and have not noticed any darkening. I usually do several very light coats of spray - not too close. Let them dry completely between coats.

Ginger, I am a waterproofing fanatic. Every Fall, I clean and waterproof my shoes and boots for the coming seasons.

I have found little difference in the actual product I use. What I have noticed is how much I use at a time makes a difference. I never spray to soak. Just a light spray from a few inches away. Then I let dry for about an hour then I re-spray, let dry then re spray again a third time for suede.

I use Meltonian and always have. That's what the boutique shoe store where I shop recommends. I have used it on a pair of light tan boots. They have survived two Central New York winters and they still look good. I spray everything. I think the local Clarks recommended it until they came out with their own brand of spray also.

Nice boots by the way!

I think I have the exact Stuart Weitzmans that crazyone showed, and I liberally sprayed them with Meltonian suede protectant when I first got them. https://www.amazon.com/Meltoni.....B008E7X77E It has so far done a decent job of keeping them in good shape.

ETA that I think one trick with lighter colors is to be sure not to direct the spray can too closely onto one area of the suede. You want to wave the can around above a large area of the boot, letting the spray "fall" onto the suede, in that famously well-ventilated area of course, and do it in several coatings, and you should be in good shape. I think I did my boots about three times, lightly each time, and left them to dry in the garage thoroughly after each coating. (And yes, it strained my patience.)

Thanks for the suggestions! BC, I don't think it matters for effectivity, but there are occasionally comments that a spray can permanently darken or spot light colors. That's a lot less noticeable on darker colors even if it happens, so I wanted to ask for experiences.

Good question! I didn't know that it mattered whether the suede is light or dark.

This is the spray my local shoe repair shop recommends. They don't recommend anything else. I know, because I asked! I don't think it changed the color. I used it on all of my suede footwear, except the Aquatalias.

I used the spray shown below for my Stuart Weitzmans, and it worked great--didn't alter the color or feel at all, and I wore my boots in the rain and they did not get wet or dirty.

It's $8 from Nordstrom's with free shipping, I would just get it from there rather than from Amazon, which I've soured on for stuff like this, after getting some fake/old makeup from them (at the full price).

I scooped up some light gray booties after Christmas (and went back and got a price adjustment after New Year's, go me). Literally the only option in the department stores that didn't have a RATE, Western, or biker feel, and they're perfect.

But they're not Aquatalia's, so I really need to spray them with something before I wear them much more. There are just enough options on Amazon that I'm nervous about ordering them. I doubt whatever I choose will go Horribly Wrong. But I also figured it wouldn't hurt to ask for personal experiences.
