Also, if you're willing to give stretch belts another try, make sure that you're fitting the most narrowest part of your body, and don't be afraid to size up. I used to have this bunching problem with them, but it's because I was fitting a larger part of my body and they would ride up throughout the day - and often pull my dress with it (haha, very professional look!)

I find that they are more easy to fit than belts without stretch - I also like braided belts so I am not constrained to their little holes that they make; ditto with the obi belt - I can tie them as loose or as tight as I would like.

I wear all kinds of belts with shirtdresses. If you are near a Target store- they are great for belts. Bring or wear the dress and go try some on to see how they look!

I think belts are a very personal choice; but I would probably do a skinny braided belt and tie it at the end ... I don't really have a pic of a shirt dress (as I have not found one that I fit well, yet and fits my lifestyle), so I just found a pic of the belt. (#1)

I also know that obis are flattering for all body types (#2). I have them in red and black as well; I love them to pieces!

I have a black cotton canvas shirt dress (the kind that has a collar and buttons down the front like a shirt) that is a bit hard to style. It came with a very long belt in matching fabric, which I usually tie like you would a trench coat, but I'm a little bored with the look. The dress has two big patch pockets on the front hip area which also makes it a bit awkward in my opinion.

I have a wide, sort of floppy red leather belt, a hot pink satin belt (although pink is really not my color), and a thin patent leather belt. So far I have worn this dress with the red belt once but I wasn't sure if a bright red belt against a black dress just cut me in half. I'm not so keen on the stretchy waist-cincher type belts because I feel like they emphasize my rather large belly. I also think that a big buckle would clash with the front pockets.

Next time I wear it I'm thinking of going for the thin patent leather belt, but I'm sure there must be a better option that I should be looking for. What kind of belt would other people wear this sort of dress with?
