I don't think the seat will be hot when you unfold it but it will likely get sticky to your skin while you're sitting there. I'd wear a mid-length short over 3" if it was me, and bring a big floppy sun hat. Well, if it was me, I wouldn't be out in that kind of heat because I would pass out so take my advice with a gain of salt

I vote Bermuda length shorts if you want to wear shorts. I don't consider short shorts professional for work, no matter how hot it is, sorry!

Ha. I've been known to crouch on the seat with my feet up (like a frog) until it cools down. I suppose that depends on exactly how comfortable you feel with your co-workers.

If you can bring a towel or something like that with you, I would. The seats are folded up, but they aren't closed, so the sun still beats down on them and they get very hot. At least they do in DC. In my experience, they are always unbearable to sit in if my legs are exposed in any way. If you bring a towel or something like that, you can put it down on the seat and avoid the initial discomfort.

I just wanted to suggest to wear a hat with a wide brim, the sun is brutal even with sunscreen on.
I had done the summer baseball game once or twice. The first time I baked, I knew better the second time around. I find baggy linen pants ( you know the ones that are "almost" like a sweatpant - Don't kill me Angie) the most comfy for the situation. I can't do bare skin on plastic seats for too long. I would get a sweat rash all over my tights.

Thanks for all the advice guys i really appreciate it!

After much deliberation i decided to wear the shorts. I talked to my hubby about it, who has met everyone in my office, and he thinks my outfit is fine. He pointed out that the seats are folded up until someone sits in them so he doesn't think burning thighs will be an issue (and i very much hope he is right...).

I also was at a water park yesterday and even though i coated myself in a high SPF sunscreen for what felt like every 5 minutes i still got alittle sunburned and all the dresses i have that would be light enough to wear expose the burned areas whereas the shirt i'm pairing with the shorts does not. This was kind of the final tipping point for me.

Please keep me in your thoughts, i will be consuming water like it's going out of style and MN girls watch the news tonight for a girl who passes out at the game from heat stroke. >.>

Freckles - yes the company and people i work for are awesome. Everyone is super nice and easy going. I'm never leaving this job unless they drag me away!

I agree... an easy breezy skirt might be more comfy overall...
I had to laugh at your post because I am facing just the opposite dilemma. We are going to a Giants game this Friday evening with friends and now I have to figure out what to wear so that I won't freeze. And I DON'T wear orange

I don't know what kind of seats are at your stadium, but your legs may sweat and slip/stick to the seats if they are bare... Do you have a light weight cotton or linen midi?

I'm with Steph. Last time I went to a baseball game on a hot day I wore shorts and I was way more uncomfortable with the sun beating down on my bare thighs than I would have been with a lightweight skirt or longer shorts. So for that reason as well as modesty, I would skip the short shorts.

As a baseball fan whose seats are very close to the field (and therefore the last to get any shade), I know how brutal it is to sit in a game when the heat is 100+. Having said that, I think that a three inch inseam is really short, and not something I would be comfortable wearing in front of co-workers. I guess in some offices it would be okay, but since you are on the fence of whether it is appropriate, I would err on the side of caution. Do you have longer shorts? If not, do you have a skirt or dress that could be a little breezy?

I also agree with Kate that you might be better off without the short shorts because you will burn your legs on the seat. When you get to the ballpark, the sun will have been beating down on that seat for hours. That plastic gets brutally hot and can be painful to sit in. If your thighs are exposed, you're either going to be hopping around in your seat, or you're going to want to stand (which is really bad form at a baseball game, and you risk the ire of the people behind you, and calls of "down in front") because of the heat from the seat. All-around bad. You're better off with something long enough to cover the parts of your body that are touching the seat.

Nicole, If you are not sure about the shorts, how about a pretty sundress or a skirt. I find them to be more airy for the heat than shorts/bermudas.

There's nothing worse than burning your legs on a hot seat. I would definitely go with a light colored knee length dress or skirt. Keeping cool isn't just about having things exposed to the air, you can actually get better air flow with a skirt/dress (especially when walking around) and also keep the sun from beating directly onto the top of your legs.

Also, stay hydrated! It will give you more excuses to get up and go to the bathroom or get another drink!

Finally, check the rules for the ballpark to see what you can bring inside. Some stadiums might not allow a spray bottle (or any outside container that hold liquids)...

Sarah - All i know is that it's section 105 and when asked about shade the answer was, "there is kind of shade sometimes." x.x Right now in my fantasy world i wake up tomorrow morning to a phone call telling me no one in the right mind is considering sitting outside for that long and that we can all still have the day off.

Do you know where your seats are? Do you have any shade? If you aren't under one of the decks, you are going to BAKE! So, I vote wear the shorts. You'll die otherwise. It's your boss whose idea this was in the first place.

Hope you have fun - I love going to the new ballpark, but it's always been in pretty mild weather. Maybe you should take a spray bottle of water along to mist everyone periodically! Seriously. Along with the sunscreen and the water bottle and the hat, etc.

Wow. I would die.

I would totally wear 3-inch inseam shorts if that's a normal length for you on a casual summer day. 120 degrees trumps pretty much anything else. I wouldn't go in bikini bottoms or, like, American Apparel hot pants, but normal short-ish shorts? Yes.

Also, sunscreen on the tops of your thighs! I always get burnt there at baseball games (after remembering the part in my hair, my shoulders, and the tops of my ears). I would also be the one to volunteer to go get food and drinks for people, if only to take a trip to the restroom and run my wrists under cold water. Ugh.

Oh, Nicole! You have my sympathies! This weather is why I am getting SO caught up on YLF -- I've been hiding inside!

We went out to eat tonite - and the restaurant's AC was broken my husband was like a caged animal just waiting to get out. . .

Back to the game! If it were me, I would NOT wear the short shorts. I once worked in a professional setting, but our manager hosted his annual pool party at his house. I usually had a 'conflict' because I could NOT reconcile wanting to earn a professional respect with hanging around my co-workers in swimsuit.

I don't know your situation, but I'd still opt for something knee length (it's better for not sticking to the seats anyway). Doesn't matter if it's shorts, dress, skirt -- it's the length I'd shoot for. . .

What kind of work place is it? I'd say it's appropriate! It's a ball game!

Stay out of the sun if you can, drink plenty of fluids, and eat salty snacks! *hugs!*

I work in a really small office; there are only 3 others besides me. So my boss thought it would be really fun to take us all to a baseball game tomorrow. I was super pumped until i learned it's supposed to feel like 120 degrees out...@_@

With that in mind, would it be unappropriate to wear shorts with a 3" inseam in front of my coworkers? I plan to pair it with a conservative sleeveless linen top, some nicer flat sandals and a floppy hat. I really don't feel like wearing a dress/skirt to a ball game.
