Oh, Taylor. You win best fragrance story. Love that. And so true!

I still tear up when I smell First and Opium - fragrances my late Mum wore.

Talk about the power of fragrance.
We were remodeling our AT store and had several other associated from other stores helping us....Lots of hard work and several people had never met.

At the end of the day a young manager from another store hugged me to thank me, when she pulled away her eyes teared up, she said "You smell just like my mother, she has passed away, but that fragrance brought back such emotion" We hugged again and when ever she sees me she runs up with a big smile and hugs me.:)

Hi Mac! Perfume and cologne refer to the amount of essential oils in the mixture. A perfume has the most concentration, and a cologne has the least. It's doesn't really depend on whether the fragrance is feminine or masculine, just how much oil it has in it. I think in America we mainly see men's cologne so we associate that with masculine scents.

Probably more than you wanted to know. Anyway, my favorite is "Jubilation XXV" by Amouage. Amouage makes a women's version called, "Jubilation 25" (kind of confusing). I haven't smelled that one yet, but I'd like to. A great perfume website is http://www.luckyscent.com. You can buy samples from the site of all kinds of interesting and hard to find scents. I keep ordering samples of Jubilation XXV. I may just bite the bullet and get some as a special gift for my birthday since I wear it pretty much every day.

Delicious scents (be it food, perfume, flowers...) make me happy, so I love a good perfume on others.
I thought of this thread today when a man walked into the bakery who wore an ocean-y perfume with some spicy notes. Very intriguing and seductive. I didn't follow him home, but did keep an eye on him until he rounded the corner;-)

I've been wearing CK One for years, it just suits me. Although I would love to find the perfect "ocean" perfume, one that actually has that breezy slightly salty quality - without the synthetic notes.

On another note: I'm also still constantly amazed at how direct a smell can be, sometimes even evoking memories and moments you thought were long lost. Quite powerful.

I LOVE smelling scents on others! Angie, I am chuckling about your following people home comment. I feel that way sometimes. I love how certain scents can evoke memories. I have a bottle of Anais Anais which I never wear but my mom did when I was younger and I like to open it up and sniff it once in awhile because it reminds me of her.

I love certain scents on men too - maybe it's the combination of pheromones and scent but there's been a few that I have wanted to follow home! And not necessarily cologne - I remember a young undergrad who was in my grad research group who would always show up for our once a week morning meetings freshly showered with Irish Spring bar soap. The smell would just drive me batty and I tried to always sit next to him so that I could just bask in the scent. My college boyfriend always used to wear Old Spice after shave and it still makes my heart go pitter patter when I smell it...

I've been wearing Ralph Lauren Romance in the winters - I first wore it on my honeymoon, and now it will always remind me of that wonderful week - but I find it too strong for summer. Lately I've been wearing Clinique Happy Heart in the warm weather - I used to wear the original Happy; Happy Heart has a little more floral mixed with the citrus. Whatever I wear, I try to only wear a little so as not to overpower people.

Lately I have that hypersensitive pregnancy nose, so just a little perfume is essential to block out all the other overpowering smells assaulting me!

Louise, I regularly wear Guerlain Vetiver, Parfums de Nicolai New York and Parfums de Nicolai Pour Homme. I also used up my samples of Dior Pour Homme and Lalique Encre Noir and some by Kenzo. All of these are classified as "men's". I really believe there are no strict lines separating one aisle from another, and a lot of it has to do with social conditioning. I happen to enjoy vetiver and dry spices, so I regularly sample the men's side.

I love perfume and would be so sad if someone close to me was allergic and I had to stop wearing it.

I have worn Jean Paul Gaultier Classique since I was 18, but I find that a bit heavy in summer so tend to wear it during winter and evenings more. I also wear Vera Wang Princess a lot, and my daughter gave me Anna Sui Secret Wish for my birthday last year which is lovely but I probably won't buy another when that bottle is finished. I am hoping to find a replacement Princess under the christmas tree this year though!

Louise, my all time favorite scent is a men's perfume (not cologne), and it's quite nice. It's a tiny bit masculine at first, but softens to a nice floral. I love it. Many women's fragrances are too sweet for my taste, it smells like candy to me. Blech.

I wear perfume everyday. I don't think I put it on so much that it's overpowering. I do it for myself, so I can smell it. It's that or wear none and be assailed by stinky sweaty armpit smell, which is all you're going to get around campus and on buses in the summer here. Sorry, but no thanks.

Maya and Steph, on a thread where people are relaying which scents they wear and like - and the topic changes to how scents are offensive to those who are hypersensitive to perfume, you are automatically going to stir up defensive feelings, even if it was not your intention. I don't want anyone on this forum to feel bad for wearing a scent.

Louise- my sister always used to wear men's scents when she was a teen. I think it's fine- your body chemistry changes the way it smells, so on a woman it doesn't really smell manly if you know what I mean. Some of them are quite nice ne gender neutral.

Angie- when we went perfume shopping my husband loved Kenso Flowers, but I couldn't stand it. It was way too sweet and strong for me.

My favorite is Origins Ginger Essence. I love it, but switch to something less spicy in the summer months. Usually some sort of body spray from Bath and Body Works. My current favorite is Sweet Pea.

I loathe strong scents. When my mom wears hers, I get a headache and feel nauseous. Yet she still wears it anyway because like most people who do not have severe physiological reactions, she dismisses it as being a real problem. I still found it easier to escape smokers in France than I do escaping scents.

As I said, if I wore a scent, I would wear just enough so that I and those close to me (for example, someone giving me a hug) could smell it without offending those around me. I don't understand the purpose of assaulting total strangers and acquaintances with a scent. If anything, your scent should be a special treat for yourself and those close to you.

Like Steph, it's not my intention to make people feel defensive, but I do feel like it's always best to know the full consequences of one's choices to make the best decisions. Obviously I'm not going to change anyone's mind any time soon, and I know that.

FWIW, the type of scent is key in my case. Fresh citrusy scents don't bother me, but musky or spicy scents leave me in tears. Not a big fan of florals either, but they only start to irritate when I'm exposed to them for a long period of time. Interestingly this has nothing to do with how I objectively perceive the scent. I often *like* spicy scents, but I can't tolerate them physically. I don't know if that can possibly make sense to someone who doesn't have this kind of reaction.

I've worn Eau de Charlotte by Annick Goutal for the last ten years or so. I like soft, light fragrances and this is mine. Cocoa, blackcurrant and mimosa. It starts off green but softens into a nice, warm, slightly powdery scent. It's getting very hard to find:(

I love Early Gray tea and salsa isn't salsa without cilantro in it. It's a very finicky herb to grow, though.
