The actual length for your culotte sweet spot is going to be different per person. I like it best proportional to the Mango image you showed, where it ends just as your calf starts to curve back&nbsp;inwards to the knee. So yeah, they could be a trend, but not one I'm drawn to. <br />With my conventional "eye" I expect culottes to have more of an A-line look. Tho I see a lot on line that are called culottes that look like what you have shown. I think I would refer to these as long shorts:). I am not sure about them for you.
