ATLynn, I have the same question. My wallet is thicker than any clutch I've seen, which is one reason why I haven't been looking too seriously at clutches yet--although I love the style quotient of them.

The only way I could think of to get it to work would be to separate out the parts of the wallet. If I took my checkbook out and gave it its own case, and if I took the credit cards and loyalty cards out and put them in their own case, that would slim down the thickness of the wallet significantly. And I could still fit everything in the clutch, as long as it were a larger clutch. So the stuff in the wallet would be kind of spread out horizontally in the clutch instead of stacked vertically in it, if that makes any sense. I haven't actually tried this; it's just my mind trying to figure out how to make it work.

I use clutches almost daily, and am the same as Denise: a slim line wallet for just the essentials (I've included a photo of mine) and then some cash folded up. I don't carry much with me anyway, even for larger purses. I do carry a little less with smaller clutches and a little more if larger.

Smaller clutches: wallet, cash, 3DS, phone, lip color, tube flashlight, hand cream tin.

Larger clutches: same as small + floss, USB drive, mints.

Bigger purses: same as clutches + small make up bag, eye drops, gloves.

My clutch for dressy events is 6' tall and very wide with generous but probably not infinite pocket space. If I had a to-acquire list of wardrobe items, an actual wallet would come at about #158, or well after a Wilburn Forge chef's knife. For now, this 3.5"x5" pouch does the job.

Sir Clutch somehow stashes my phone and lip balm as well. Remind me of that when I get an actual clutch and complain that it can't fit bento boxes and noise-canceling earphones.

I have this wallet which fits into all of my clutches and it holds plenty, including coins and a full size bill section:
http://www.brighton.com/produc.....allet.html

I have all extra cards that I don't use often in a separate case.

For all of the reward cards, I downloaded an app on my iphone called Keyring, scanned all the cards into that and tossed the cards.

I love the Fly Lady wallet for my clutches.
http://shop.flylady.net/pages/FlyShop_Wallet.asp
It holds the basics like drivers license, insurance cards, one or two credit cards and more. I have a second, bigger wallet for all my discount, membership and loyalty cards that I only carry if I think I'll need it.

I am not a bag lady and sometimes try to get away with no bag at all, so I use a wristlet. Works great for quick errands or in a clutch, but it does sometimes drive me crazy that my bills are not crisp.

I use the Mywalit credit card and ID holder. It's slim, holds up to three credit cards and an ID, and comes in an array of color combinations. It also has a center pocket to tuck a few bills into. I'm not sure if they ship to the US, but I have found them sold in boutiques here.

Well, I don't use clutches on a day to day basis. But I do have a teeny tiny wallet for dressy events and I use a very small wallet daily in any case. I used to have a pretty small trifold from Hobo, then I lost it in Athens, after which for a couple of weeks I was using the teeny tiny dress wallet since it was the only one I had - it's a bifold just a little bit bigger than a credit card and has 4 card slots and an exterior ID window. I really liked the tiny wallet experiment but that particular wallet has the problem of not having a coin pouch and not having a large billfold area (I had to fold up the bills and stick it in one of the card slots, which was annoying).

So I looked around and found this one, which I ordered and am now using. I love it. It's basically the smallest wallet I could find that still had the coin pouch and billfold. I carry 2 IDs, 3 credit cards, ATM card, subway fare card, and a few random cards (like my starbucks card and some store rewards cards), plus some cash, and it all fits fine. It's pretty thin and will definitely fit in my clutches.
http://www.zappos.com/coach-le.....lver-black
(I got a wine color that is not available at Zappos, but wanted to use the Zappos link because it actually shows the inside).

ETA: Don't think the link is working right. Search for "coach legacy small leather wallet". Or here it is at Nordies:

I also went minimal with my wallet. I think I could go smaller still, I don't use all of the space in my current one. I like that I'm not tempted to lug stuff around that I don't need. I have a place at home where I keep all the cards etc. that I don't use day to day and I got used to changing them out when needed.

I love clutches and appreciated Angie's blog post today on using dressy shoes and a clutch to update your style quotient. However, my wallet is almost clutch sized! No way that thing is fitting in a tiny handbag.

As an urban dweller who uses public transportation or walks everywhere, I prefer a crossbody most times because it's more secure and keeps my hands free. I like having a big wallet because I can use it as a substitute clutch if running down to the drugstore or out to lunch. But, I always struggle when I need to carry a smaller purse somewhere.

I'd love to know how y'all fit your necessities, especially your wallets and phones, into those stylish tiny bags.
