What ClearlyClaire said! I prefer collarless toppers with high necks-Chanel style jackets, or drapy cardis/jackets. I also like to add a chunky necklace to break up the high neckline. It sort of gives the illusion the neckline is lower!

Molly, Clearlyclaire raises a great point. I have shoulder length hair and if I feel that I have too much happening around my neck, wearing my hair up tends to help lengthen or declutter my neckline.

Hi Molly. I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking, but I wonder if you have the same problem I do with high necked dresses. Somehow they’re fine in their own, but add a blazer and something goes wrong. Either there is not enough neck showing, or there is too much structure on structure, as stiff, woven, structured blazer on top of a stiff, woven, structured dress.

Angie and Suz both have lovely long necks, so they don’t seem to have this problem. But I visually look choked sometimes.

My only solution is to wear one softer item with the structured one, so I don’t look so packed in there, lol! A drapey sweater with a blazer cut works well over a stiffer dress. Or one that is slightly more “cutaway” and leaves more torso visible. You might also try a long necklace to lengthen your neckline.

It’s funny, all I need is for my collar bones to be exposed to feel like I have enough space. It’s the boat, slash, and high crew necks that look too covered up when I add a blazer. And typically those dresses are sleeveless. So on their own, they show enough skin to create the “skin” kind of visual structure that Angie talks about. Good luck!

Maybe the proportions are different over the high neck tops? Shorter or longer?

I wear almost exclusively higher necked tops -- crew, slash neck, boat neck (with close fit, not loose), shirt collar, turtleneck, jewel neck. I find blazers work really well with these. Ditto jean jackets! I also wear open front longline cardigans.

A selection of my typical tops and toppers...

Curious about what you feel is going wrong for you or what you don't like.

I have more and more of these tops and dresses.
I am not showing so much chest or neck. My old standby was cardigan or jean jacket.
I am slowing adding structure. I bought 2 blazers and those are not exactly right either.
