The black plastic is helping with the dust a lot, and so we are now cleaned up. The initial black plastic&nbsp;smell has gone too.</p> <p>We are just having to use the place a bit differently. There's no light in the kitchen except in the pantry and over the stove, so I've found myself cooking more next to a window. I save any handwashing til morning when I can see details.</p> <p>No word yet to absolutely confirm about the insurance or when the repairs are going to happen but it'll be quite a big job and will include painting (ironically it's the room that has last been painted, by DH).</p> <p>In the first week we had lots of volunteers at church to host things that we usually have at our place, but with a few modifications (DH will stick some mobile lights up around ) we should be back to normal with that. But we thought that would mean likely having to replace appliances, no ceilings</p> <p>It didn't have any insulation, which we just had put in a few months ago, either. What a mess! </p> <p>When we lived on the Texas Gulf Coast, there was a freakish cold spell. Down there, the pipes were run in the ceiling crawl space. Someone I worked with was out of town, and the pipes broke due to the cold. Because they were gone, the water ran for a whole weekend, wrecking the ceiling and flooding their house. A neighbor finally saw water running from the house out to the street and shut their water off.
