Loved reading your reflections here and applaud your smart shopping. I'm not surprised the SE slip on sneaks didn't work for you. The big surprise is that they worked forme! They are the first slip on shoe that I've tried that would stay on!! Different lasts for different feet and vive la difference.

I have also lived in tees this summer. My trip to China required casual, easily washable, no iron, heat proof options. And right now I am travelling on the Maritimes where it's sunny and unusually hot. So it is tees again. I got a few at JCrew and Loft and they've been workhorses.

I bought both slipons and graphic tees (2) to wear this summer, but the cheapest I could find -- JCrew Factory -- and they've served me very well. Comfortable, easy, ultra casual. These have definitely been part of my look.

Congrats on holding off on those SEs. It's hard to do that when you really like something, but it's gratifying to know you can.

I enjoyed your post and the replies. Maybe trying a bunch of new things we see and like, then backing off after gaining wisdom about what works is part of the process. This is one reason that I find Angie's ensembles so valuable. They inspire me to shop my closet for fresh outfits. At one time I would have wanted to buy new pieces to make the outfits. Now I think about it more

I think it sound like you're doing a great job in realising what works for you Texstyle, being realistic in choices that work for you and your lifestyle. It is really easy to be tempted by all the 'nice things' we see regularly on here, online shopping etc. I'm getting a bit better myself and have enjoyed my wardrobe a bit more this year. Keep up the good work..and nice to see you post again. Glad work is going well.

Glad my post wasn't too much introspection. There have been several times when I really wish I had been able to post a WIW of a good summer outfit but just couldn't make it happen. My niece and her family came and spent a week with us during some of the busiest start up time we had and that was truly wonderful but also added to the workload. I was glad to have a closet full of great summer pieces and I could easily put together an outfit with very little thought.

cocolion - you are right about slip ons being hot (I do wash mine and/or wear washable inserts) but I've been spending a lot of time indoors so it's been working for me (I really need covered feet at work right now). I'd like a pair of mesh or perforated slip ons but haven't had time to look. I seriously do miss wearing my sandals and wear them as much as I can when I'm not working.

I started a thread on being a lemming a few days ago and it is the opposite of yours. I have been buying items based on WIW and blogs and wonder if the level of influence is too high. Only time will tell.

I like the direction you are going and it sounds like you have made wise decisions on your purchases. I like slip on shoes too, pointy toe flats or low wedges are my shoe of choice. It seems like it should be insignificant, but the time to do up the straps on sandals seems to be a bother.

As with everything, there are ups and downs to being influenced by others. It is choosing the right times and pieces.

It is nice to see you back.

It's HOT here in August and slip on shoes are still too hot for me. I am currently all about sandals. I did get some flat ones this year as that's the prevailing trend But I also found several pairs from Amazon, mostly older models from 2014 when a baby heel (1.5 inches) was still chic. That heel height is definitely my sweet spot, wedge or block heel.

And the tees.. well, I live in them. Although these two tops from Kohls have been welcome changes from my tee addiction. The plaid one is similar to those from Rails, but at a fraction of the price.

Slip on shoes have changed my life too! As long as they are edgy and not delicate they make getting dressed in summer so much easier for me. I love hearing your thoughts and reflections.

Good for you for waiting on the leopard shoes! It's tough to admit that something isn't working, but I find that within not too many days, I am over it and happily pursuing the next thing. It is such a good feeling to have a closet full of clothes that make you happy!

It is a real eye opener when you really start thinking about purchases a little more. That, and when you start buying for your real life and body rather than your fantasy one.

I'm also enjoying slip-ons, or at least i was before it got too hot here. I just got a pair of cheap Rocket Dog ones with a fun palm tree print that I can wear with jeans and a t-shirt on the weekend.

So I haven't had much time to be on YLF lately (new business venture in
addition to existing one) but I have been visiting on/off and thinking
a lot more carefully about my purchases these days. I'm often tempted
to get something just because I see an image and think I like it - the
color, the "idea" of it, etc. but I've gotten much better at
rationalizing it and reminding myself that I have a lot of items I love
already in my closet that don't get worn that often as it is.YLF has helped immensely in that regard.

I really had the "itch" for those leopard SE print slip ons Suz got
recently - even tried them in 2 sizes - but the design just wasn't made
for my foot shape and they didn't work, though they looked so cute. In
a past time I would have bought them anyway (mistake) and been
uncomfortable wearing them. Now I know better and am waiting for the
*right* ones for me.

This year has been a great one for the graphic tee and I have added
several to my closet as I have the lifestyle where these work really
well for me on a regular basis. It's not exactly high fashion, but it's
fashion that works for me right now.

Slip on shoes have also been key - I have a couple different versions
of the UGG slips ons in white, and a light and dark stripe (the dark is
for fall so not worn yet). I also waited for the same style to come
back in the cognac suede in my size and I'm looking forward to wearing
them in cooler temps this fall/winter.

I've added a couple of dressier tees too - a jcrew navy one with
embellishments that look like stars almost - not something I would have
normally picked, but I actually love it and it works for my casual
daily wear.

I know, I'm just rambling but thought I'd share since it might be of help to other YLF members to read.
