Thanks for sharing Anna - it is wonderful that you are taking care of your Dad. Denim definitely seems to be taking center stage with a lot of people this season, which is great by me.

I'm not sure I have much style news to share - most of this winter has been buying more sweaters and wool socks due to a colder than usual weather pattern here in Texas. Or maybe I'm just getting less tolerant to the cold with all our summer heat. I have embraced warm fleece jogger pants for some of those extra cold work at home days. And I ordered a spring dress, which is usually way out of my zone - but it was way off on the size so I'm trying again.

I loved reading your thoughts on your style shift. Denim and chambray look wonderful on you and seem perfect for Seattle. I like your picks and the denim jacket.
Having to deal with aging parents is tough, especially having him live with you. Be sure to plan some fun with friends to keep in touch with them, for some balance in your life and to re-energize. He needs to socialize with people his age too. Is there a place nearby where retired men meet for morning coffee? My thoughts are with you.

It's so interesting to read about your shifts, Anna. I'll be interested to see where it goes. I hope you'll be posting pictures!

I honestly have no idea where I am style-wise. With all the snow here this winter, I've spent at least half my time in workout gear (pre- and post- workout) and the other half in warm layers without a thought to fashion. But I'm starting to get interested in getting dressed again. I just don't know what in.

It sounds like you are going through a change there Anna, and some of the changes in situation have resulted in wardrobe shifts. I have only been on the forum about a year so I only really know the last year of your fashion direction.

I am also not that inspired with what I am seeing either in retail or in fashion mags/designer websites in general which is possibly a good thing as I have other spending priorities this year. I also think I have seen most of the trends - the 70s revival has been around at least a couple of rounds since the 70s for example. And I actually like the 70s fashions, although many will not translate for my life and body.

I also feel that with the rise and rise of online shopping our expectations rise almost to unrealistic levels. I consider our selection of local retailers pretty good where I live, at all price points. Online shopping has advantages, but I find the reality of the items when i buy them often very disappointing, either in fabric or in fit.

My direction this year is going to be more elegant, more polished, but still with a casual edge. I want to up the ante on my grooming. This is probably age and vanity related - but I think I also can get more bang for my buck here in terms of overall look. This is going to be a slight challenge for me as I am ultimate lazy girl with my hair in particular and very erratic with makeup.

I will follow trends with caution. As I want quality items I need them to be worn over several seasons which means forgoing some trends. I might do some glam 70s looks this year, I will wear lots of flat shoes, I will be avoiding oversized looks in the most part, or wearing them with caution.

Thanks for sharing what you've been feeling stylewise Anna! Interesting thoughts on the designers too. A few thoughts I had while reading:

I'd be tempted to hang onto the leather motos and statement jewelry,
I seem to go in cycles with those things myself. A season or two on, a
season or two off.

The Chimala cropped jeans outfit you described sounds like a fun
take on a Cascadian look. That and the other sneakers looks sound like a
Sporty-Luxe But More Sporty Than Luxe thing.

Hope your dad's surgery goes well. My dad had eye surgery a while
back and the recovery period was longer than expected because he
developed some odd complications, but it was actually still pretty
smooth overall.

EDIT: Why the floral purge, by the way?

Super interesting about the florals, ballet flats, and motos. I definitely think you do light wash/chambray like no other, so I'm into your new direction. I personally would like a pair of flat slipper mules this summer, and that's all in the shoe dept.

Oh thanks for the analysis. I noticed in your latest WIW's a less maximal look. Maybe that is not exactly the best description but something like that. I am sort of over sneakers myself - or let's say my sneaker wearing has remained unmoved. Good luck with your dad, that's rough.

Hi Anna, so interesting. Like you, I'm not into ballet flats anymore, though I will keep the only ones that I still have, the AGLs. Also, I didn't wear my black leather moto all winter but suddenly am wearing it a lot now that it's spring here. I think in winter I just wanted cozier toppers but now I can wear something that's basically not very warm.

I like the sound of your style shift Anna. Why not. Always fun.

I like that you've been going high-low too (Express and H&M). Jeans are very practical, and will take you just about anywhere in Seattle. Good strategy.

I sense that Boho Futurism is the next phase of your style journey. Enjoy the ride, and I would like to see the new Celines in an outfit.

Isn't it BEAUTIFUL today. You can wear your denim culottes no problem.

My own style shifting strategies are quite opposite to you at the moment:

Feeling my jeans less and less (accept for white jeans)

Reverting back to skinny pants (jeans styles in non-denim fabrics). Not into baggy BFs anymore.

Have fallen back in love with ballet flats because I've done my share of masculine shoes. I want to amp up the pretty.

LOVING high waisted cropped pants (but not jeans)

LOVING florals

Want to wear heels even less frequently than I used to.

Feeling Retro Futurism (Prada's and Bally's 2015 Fall shows, which I loved)

Interesting, Anna! It sounds like you're amid a style shift of tectonic proportions. Your interest in denim seems to fit where you are: your fashion is, as before, focused on non-work-wear, given that you wear scrubs at work. And denim is comfortable and laid-back (even very stylish denim has this quality, to my mind), a good way to dress when your time off is limited and your social life restricted.

I did not shop from mid October to the beginning of January.
Unfortunately, due a myriad of factors, my weight is up a significant amount, ~15 lbs. Which has reduced a huge amount of my wardrobe that I can wear, probably over 1/2. I'm trying to rectify that, but it's very difficult right now as my Dad is staying with me for an extended period for cataract surgery. This has also basically eliminated my social life for the time being. I probably get about one day a week I can wear real clothes, or at least worthwhile to make an effort.
I've purged all my florals, except I found one renegade shirt stashed that will soon go. I got rid of at least 2/3 of my ballet flats, which I haven't worn in quite a while. A good chunk of my jeans went.
Probably next to go are my pastel skinny jeans. Also possibly some of the patterned ones.
I haven't been wearing my leather moto jackets, not quite sure what to make of that now. Nor my statement jewelry. Sporty lux, I was doing a while ago, but now I'm eh.
I'm over my obsession with Isabel Marant, her prices have increased even more, she's already rehashing her own stuff or doing ridiculous things like making a version of the Adidas Stan Smith sneaker for $500. Also I have noticed a lot of her stuff either on sale at the end of the season or on sample sale sites. Her stuff used to sell out at full price. I'm debating selling my wedge sneakers from her, I have black and gold.
I'm not so sure about the crazy patterns at Kenzo and MSGM.
What I have been wearing is lots and lots of denim and hats. On the last day of Shoptember Seattle Inge Fest was a pair of raw Chimala cropped jeans. I've been wearing them a great deal, especially with a cropped striped shirt from Portland and the knit puffer vest from Baby & Co here in Seattle.
Early January when I realized I couldn't stuff myself into my old skinnies, I got a clearance pair of dark wash, high waisted skinnies from Express, and a blackish tan acid wash high waisted from H&M. They were in constant rotation. Especially with my taupe Celine high top sneakers. I love the sneakers. Recently I got a pair of true black high waisted skinnies from Aritizia. Haven't quite got them going.
And the dresses, the bleach frayed chambray Sea, drawstring waist chambray from H&M. The gamble dress from Alexa Chung for AG Jeans. Plus the a-line button front denim mini from the same line. I predict I will wear all a lot. My Rachel Comey culottes from last summer will get worn when it warms up some more.
I do want a big denim jacket, but not the tradition styling. Considering this:
http://www.lagarconne.com/stor.....H-COAT.htm
As far as shoes, the only ones that really speak to me right now are the Loeffler Randall mules, collected below.
I've also noticed that less likely to spend crazy amounts of money on fashion.
That's all I can really think of for now, but if you have any questions, please feel free to ask them.
