I'm pretty low. The bulk of my jewelry is silver/white gold and I will not purchase bags that do not have silver hardware. Same for my belts, I always look for one's with silver colored buckles. They are really hard to find with brown belts, the brown one's are always gold/rust colored.

What facilitated the change was buying pieces that had more than one metal and then feeling free to add others. I have a favorite chunky watch that has silver and rose gold. I also had a necklace that was a mix of metals that worked with almost everything. Last was the purchase of a La Mer watch with multi color chains and leather strap.

I have been mixing the metals in my home too and like how it looks. I still try to avoid the really brassy gold tones but the softer metallics are all good together for me.

I'm easing up but am still uncomfortable if say a handbag has lots of hardware in one bright metal (bright silver or gold) and I want to wear a belt with a different metal buckle or jewelry with prominent metal. Much easier if one metal is slightly distressed or ambiguous or the amounts of hardware very small. Mostly that means I try to avoid handbags with prominent shiny metal parts.

Mine is really low, especially when a single item mixes metals. Can handle different items far from each other a little more. But I also don't do matchy. I guess I'm not a jewelry person - I love my wolverine skull though.

It depends on how flashy the metals in question are. I always wear gold wedding and other rings, even when wearing silver otherwise. However, if wearing metallic footwear, I want hardware on bags, watch and belts to be in the same metal family. My biggest metal problem is that most of my bags have gold/brass hardware that really stands out to my eye.

Beth Ann, have you looked at vermeil jewelry? It is gold-plated sterling silver and so much more affordable. With gold at almost $1400 an ounce I am looking at it as a good alternative! Also, I'm afraid I'm not shy about using nice-looking gold colored costume jewelry!

I used to be a "match only" type of girl, but now I'm learning to be freer, particularly when thinking about hardware on footwear and bags, buttons on coats, etc. I love items that mix the metals very deliberately. I would wear more gold if I could afford real 14K or fine gold plate.

Probably a 9. There are some pieces I won't mix.

For years I was a solid gold woman, but I found that matte gold was better than the shiny stuff.

Then I fell in love with David Yurman. My first piece was a solid bracelet I got at an estate sale, but for years I had been drooling over magazine ads, and it wasn't long before I worked in combined metals.

My wedding band is wide gold, but the prongs on the diamond are white gold. I have a Must de Cartier gold vermeil watch and will wear a mixed metal bracelet with it if I am going to wear silver on the other hand.

Some pieces just don't mix well, though.

I still have some gold pieces I don't wear, and a few pieces that are hard to mix. (Our house was burglarized last year and a lot of my jewelry was stolen and they didn't catch the creeps who did it.) I've thought carefully about it as I've bought new pieces.

I prefer not have have much shiny metal trimmings on bags and shoes. I don't want to worry about my silver bracelet clashing with gold hardware on a bag.

I always wear my yellow gold wedding ring. Some, probably most, of my watches and bags have silver hardware and I wear them with my ring. If I happen to be wearing silver earrings I would probably not wear a gold tone watch, but might wear a bag with gold or brass hardware. So a 7?

Pretty high for me. I do try to match watch, earrings and necklace if I can. My wedding ring is platinum so that is what it is and I wear gold with it. I generally ignore purse, belt and shoe hardware if I need to.

I'm also trying to add to my rose gold collection because I have a great watch, but nothing else.

I am probably a 7. I like mixed metal watch bands and mixed metal jewelry. I love copper and yellow gold or brass together. I like white and yellow gold ( or silver ). But I am not a fan of a yellow gold necklace and white earrings, for example. It looks too much of being a mistake, to me.
I also live skinny bangles in various metals all worn together.

Yes, I have two "wardrobes" of white and yellow.

I also have several pieces in two or three colors ( I have a cuff that is copper , yellow gold and silver )

Very high; 7-9/10. My wedding band is18k gold so very yellow and I can't get it off, and most of metals are shiny silver toned with some brushed or pewter. Shiny with shiny works for me. Copper and rose gold don't work too well with my skin tones, and brass feels way too heavy to me aesthetically.

I'm with MaryK - about a 7 on comfort level (and enjoyment of) mixed metals.

Hmm..years ago, I used to worry about this stuff, but these days - I don't mind mixing up metals at all. Not sure why - just that maybe I don't want to be all that "matchy-matchy" anymore? I'll happily wear gold earrings and a white metal watch or what have you.

I think I started to mix more around the time I also started to let go of some other old notions about color -- that everything must *match* and not just *go.* I think I started to see the bigger picture in terms of an outfit rather than getting bogged down in whether some hardware on a handbag was gold rather than silver.

Don't get me wrong, I still prefer to match most of the time. And finding a bag i love with silver hardware or gunmetal rather than gold definitely nudges me more into likelihood of a purchase. But I'm not as rigid as I used to be.

Maybe a 5. I like an item of jewellery that has both gold and silver, sometimes. It depends on the piece. I wouldn't wear a heap of gold and silver necklaces though. But it doesn't bother me at all if my handbag has a brass buckle and my earrings are silver and my wedding ring is white gold and my right hand bears a yellow gold ring. :-)

Probably 2. I'll wear a pearl necklace with a small yellow gold clasp and pearl earrings with white gold posts. That is the extent of my metal mixing. Other than that one yellow gold clasp, everything else in my jewelry drawer has white metal.

Pastrygirl, I do that too. I love how other people put together mixed metal looks so I try, but ug. No.

Joi, you sound almost as matchy as I am!

Echo, sticking to one metal must help so much. I don't even know what I'd pick if forced at gunpoint.

Irene, you're an earring girl!!! Earrings are the one thing I do not leave the house without.

Cheryl, your jewelry sounds really pretty. I'd love to see some of it!

Florence, it's that "feeling miserable" thing we want to avoid!!!

Hedgie, your mixing sounds lovely!

Diana, I love your wedding day example--proves you are completely comfortable mixing!

Janet, maybe I will ease up too! I'm not rigid on purpose, I just am.

Diane and Nancy, Marie, Shedev, thanks for providing me with some non-mix company!

Mary and Denise, I never would have thought of the shine factor! Hmm.

Hmm, I would say I am between 3-5. My wedding bands are yellow gold, and I do feel comfy wearing silver along with them, but not much else. For example: if I am wearing gold accessories, the metal on my handbag and shoes (if applicable) must also be gold. And vice versa if I am wearing silver. Almost as if I do not consider my wedding bands in the equation. I have a couple of mixed metal pieces, and with those I still usually compliment them with one other primary metal. Small step in progress: I can mix silver and hematite/dark metallic grey metals freely! LOL

Timely question! I put on silver earrings this morning but then decided on a goldtone necklace. I tried to keep the earrings...but I just had to change them out. Unfortunately I only have one pair of goldtone earrings and they were not the style I wanted to wear, but I just couldn't mix the metals so close to each other.

Maybe a 3. I love the idea of mixing metals, and I generally love it when other people do it, but I never feel like I can make it look intentional on myself. I sometimes wear different metals if I count handbag hardware or boot buckles, but I almost never mix jewelry. I also wear almost exclusively yellow gold, so I don't own much of anything else.

Earrings and watch, ALWAYS match (I don't wear necklaces, bracelets or rings). I'm more tolerant with hardware in accessories (shoes and bag) but feel happier when they match as well.
