I think one of my signatures is always wearing a different watch. I have a collection and wear a different one each day that complements my outfit-nothing silly. My friend and I shop at the apparel mart in Atlanta and you can buy them at really low prices.

Hmm. Not sure I've developed signature style yet but I veer towards neutrals; only feel like myself when my hair is long; tend to wear few accessories; gold over silver.

A bit off topic but have any of you read the book called "Style Statement?" I first heard of it while reading the fabulous PassagedesPerles blog. I took it from the library and have just started to read it. It's supposed to help one figure out a style statement, not just as it relates to fashion but also the style in which one lives life.

It has been interesting reading the new posts on everyone's style. While I can pick up on others' style and admire it, I don't know what mine is. That's partly what draws me to read this blog and forum...a search for personal style.
I'm slowly finding what clothing shapes work best, but seem to have a bit of everything and don't often wear the same pieces together twice. I'm probably a mood dresser who gets bored easily. I wish I could identify my style.

How interesting! I think my signature style would include:

- black. I love black, and it suits me. I can't imagine not wearing it for any length of time. I think white will become this way for me as well.
- saturated color, particularly jewel tones.
- fabulous shoes. I will often wear pretty basic clothing but with fab shoes.
- earrings. I feel naked without them.
- short hair.
- funky details, like buckles, zippers, ties, bows, etc. etc. etc., particularly in shoes.

I think my signature style involves bright colour and details.

Brights- About a year ago, I did not own that many colourful clothes at all but ever since I gained confidence in my taste in clothes, I have been buying every colourful piece of clothing I like. My wardrobe now looks like a peacock's tail feathers and I love it.

Details- In every outfit, there always are little details like textured tights, unusual cuts, bows, belts. I love the little touches and they always make my boring outfit of H&M cheap clothes look so much better.

It's been fun to read both the new AND old posts about our signature styles - and those that we've left behind! Some other thoughts:

One of my old signature items was a blazer. Even for smart casual wear I used a brown courduroy blazer with jeans. Lately I've replaced that with the two moto jackets I bought this year, but maybe I should bring some of my blazers back too so I don't get stuck in a brand-new rut.

Some of the current "signature style" elements that I didn't think about are:
1. Playing up the eyes. I've been told that my eyes are a pretty shape, and I like to play them up with subtle fun eyeshadow colors, curled lashes, and a coat of black mascara. Since I alternate between glasses and contacts, I also make sure that my eyeglasses are delicate enough that they show off my eyes instead of hiding them.
2. Classic bob, with slight variations in length, angle, and bangs. I rarely wear it up. Alas, this is only a signature move because I'm completely inept at any sort of updo, long hair looks terrible and unhealthy on me, and a bob is the simplest low-maintenance cut and suits my face. Lucky for me I like the look.

I was thinking about this today...

Before I got laid off from my office job, I dressed from my shoes up. I recently took them all down to find my summery shoes, and realized how much I love each and every pair! Most of my shoes have patterns on them or are interesting in some way (and most of them are heels).

Now that I'm working retail, I have to wear flats to run around the store in. So, I've recently been trying to find flats that have cute patterns or fun colors.

I also wear a lot of really long, chunky necklaces. But I've been doing this for years now (since 2006) and I think I'm getting bored with it! Scarves is my thing these days

I am cracking up at how this thread got revived! I almost did what Shiny did, and commented on the blog post itself. I noticed the dates before it was too late! ;-D

My signature style really just involved two things: bright colors and a complete look. The shoes, necklaces, purse all has to work with the rest of the outfit, or I just don't feel properly dressed. Not matching, but complementary; the necklace needs to emphasize the neck of the top, the shoes need to finish off the leg/outfit, etc.

And brights, omg, I love brights. I have just stocked up for my new size: summer yellow, maize, turquoise, kelly green, rich teal, bright blue, fire engine red, plum, orange, etc. Almost all the pastels from my friend have been packed away, and now with colors that I love, my closet feels like my own again.

Well, I don't know if I have a "signature style" exactly. I suppose my whole style is signature for me. I enjoy having fun with what I wear - whether that is wearing a suit like I did today for just running around - or cute skirts/pants and a great top.

I suppose my signature is the fact that I never leave the house without earrings, unless I am in a huge rush and accidentally forget.

I think I go through phases as well. Although the fun shoes/jewelry/animal print is probably my signature look from reading comments from everyone on this site. I'm currently going through a bangle phase. Oh, the fun that is!! Wood, black, shell, silver, leather, colored wood or shell, the possiblities to mix & match are endless. I just have one caveat - I don't like clunky noisey one's. I can't wear them at work because they are too distracting so I tend to stay away from them.

Over the years I've went through pin & scarf phases as well. I mix one in here & there but that's about it for now anyway.

Sometimes I get on my skinny belt phase. That's kind of fun sometimes too. I haven't been on that one for awhile.

I'm like you Kari, I have to have something around my neck or I feel naked! Although I do love it when I see an outfit on someone with nothing on the neck but some simple cool earrings. I guess everyone pulls off things differently. :)

Oh gosh, years ago it was my gold necklace, gold hoops & diamond studs (2nd piercing) every single day! That phase lasted entirely TOO long!!

HannahC - I agree that it is easier to think in terms of our personal "uniforms".

For the last year or so, my "thing" has been a statement jacket or simple top with statement necklace. Tended to stick with slacks as it was easier in my former job. Oh, and I was known for wearing a kitten heel.

I tended to wear a bright color, or something to say "I'm approachable" especially if I was also wearing a suit. When supervising a large number of people, I wanted a balance of authority/approachabilty. Hope that makes sense.

As I look for another job/career, I wonder what my style will evolve into? I am semi-looking for a less hands-on, physical role and that may allow me to wear the skirts I am hoarding (but rarely wore in decent rotation) and be less practical with my clothes.

The last few months, I have felt the lack of casual fashion sense. I can do dressed up, professional, smart casual, but not good at stay at home casual!

Wow, such an interesting thread! Maybe we should keep it on top forever?

My signature style is wrap anything (well, dresses and tops - never saw a wrap pair of slack ), and the color purple. Oh, and I wear dresses and skirts much more than all the other women around me. And mary-janes with 2'' heels.

Hmmm ... how does a style relate to having a "uniform"? Because I feel that I answered by describing my "dressing uniform" instead of describing my style. But of course people who are constantly pushing their fashion envelope have their personal style. So what fits into the "style" description?

Hmm, as soon as something starts to feel like a signature item, I find myself quickly putting it away. i don't want anything about my style to become predictable, and I usually get bored easily anyway. As soon as I realized I had been wearing necklaces every day for the past several weeks, I started wearing earrings instead. Then I stopped wearing jewelry all together for a while. Same thing happened with headbands. I loved them initially and still do, but I try not to wear them all the time. I change everything about my look every day. I just don't feel refreshed if I'm doing any one thing repeatedly.

Like Shiny, I feel like I go through signature "phases" and easily become obsessed with a few items. Right now I'm in a cardigan/scarf phase, and I'm wearing lots of green because it's spring and so many people encourage me to wear the color.
Actually, my most consistent "signature element" is to have SOMETHING around my heck - be it a necklace, scarf, neck-tie detail, or ruffled collar. It's not something I'm conscious of when I get dressed, but if I don't have something around my neck I feel weird and empty.

I would say my style strives to say classic and tailored with a twist, the twist being something like a statement shoe, watch, scarf or the like.

Most people do comment on my shoes, Heaven had me in mind for high heels. I love them and wear them daily, all colors styles and heel designs.

Rereading this topic made me think of a book entitled Style Statement by Danielle LaPort and Carrie McCarthy. The premise is that you go through a series of questions and exercises about yourself that lead you to two words that describe you. The first word describes your essense and about 80% of your personality and appearance. The second is your creativity or creative edge and is the 20% of yourself that gives you joy and pushes you to be your best. You end up with phrases like Genuine Treasure, Dramatic Timeless, Elegant Comfort, etc.

The style statements are supposed to be applicable to everything from your job choice to your wardrobe style. I have worked through the book and still cannot figure out my statement! I know women who are very self aware who are able to come up their statement without even doing the exercises.

Has anyone seen this? Just off the top of your head...what would your style statement be?

Shiny just posted a comment on a blog entry that's more than a year old! I guess this IS a never ending topic.

A signature style has so many facets and is not suspended in time. It can evolve.... or not. Some parts of my look and dress have totally changed over the years, whereas others have stayed the same it’s frightening. Quite interesting to think about.

I just followed the link above and answered this, thinking it was today's blog post! I am only now realizing it is one year old.

I suppose my signature right now is cardigans, but I am more apt to go through phases and jags, where I will adopt a single "signature" item" and wear it daily for weeks on end, until moving on to the next item. For example, lately I've been sporting the yellow banana bag as a signature item, and also wearing a lot of grey plus white.

Thinking back over my lifetime, I remember in the late 80s/early 90s wearing a vintage pin on my lapel day after day. I OD'd on that look, but I saved those pins all these years, and have been enjoying wearing them again, in a new way.

Likewise I have a long onyx and gold necklace that was once a signature piece. I still have it but haven't worn it in eons. Perhaps I will again decide to go on a jag with it.

I went through a long period wearing red all the time. Nowadays, other than red shoes, I hesitate to wear red because I wore too much of it in that past phase.

And I had a green phase in recent years too. I still love green - and lately I feel a citron phase coming on.

Last summer I wore my long pearl necklace day after day.

You get the picture! I will fall in love with something, and want to wear it every day trying out new ways to make it fresh, until I get bored and I'm ready for the next new thing.

This topic never gets old!

Sarah, I'd say your style is feminine with a twist. And dresses are definitely part of your signature style -- you wear them well!

I really am not sure what my signature style is, but I do know I'm quickly developing one. I just don't know exactly what to call it.

I know this is an old thread, but I'd love to see some new responses!

I think that I'm becoming known for ethnic inspired statement necklaces. I love them- always have, but I have really figuyred out a way to make them work for me. I actually like fairly clean lines in my clothing and a more tailored look and a fairly traditional style, paired with the ethnic accents.

I prefer only wear one necklace on my clothes.
In summer short T-shirt and short skirt and a pair of sports shoes with a necklace
like this:
http://www.jewelrybase.com/pro.....038;page=1
In winter I will add a sweater chain inside the coat. (jeans below):
http://www.jewelrybase.com/pro.....038;page=1
I bought jewelry from this site. Nice and fashion.
So i strongly recommend.
Hope you will also love the site.

Metamelomai, sounds like being thin is your new signature look! Congrats on the weight loss. I, for one, know how difficult it can be to lose weight.

Until lately the most characteristic part of my style has been long, narrow, ankle length knit skirts in dark colors. I have been overweight for the past 3 years or so and the long skirts were the only things I could wear that made me look and feel slimmer. I am quite tall (5'-10") and I liked the long, vertical line the skirts gave me, especially when worn with heels or platforms. Now that I've lost 40 lbs. I feel much more confident wearing different things like pants and shorter skirts again so I guess I don't really have a consistent signature look anymore.

This is a fun thread...a bit old but I'm still jumping in the bandwagon. I had to think hard about what my signature style is, and I'm glad I did because I had never noticed patterns in the way I dress myself.

I am usually dressed in smart casual. I absolutely LOVE wearing jackets and I do so almost everyday. I love exotic jewelry from other countries....the intricate type and especially bracelets and earrings.

Also, I have always worn my hair curly, even when straight hair is still the most popular. I have hair like Sarah Jessica Parker, and even before she made curls more acceptable, I have always loved my hair. It is jet black and shiny and I love that it is different.

I'm known for matching my glasses to my outfit (I have 5 pairs), and usually to my shoes as well. I also have a lot of colorful earrings that I match to my outfit and/or shoes as well. I love accessories and I love shoes and people at my workplace figure this out quickly
