Aquamarine, if it weren't for my scrawny calves, I would agree with you about the perfect fit on boots being easier. But I will completely agree with you that I have found booties easier to fit than some other types of shoes, for the reason you mentioned.

Chadya, I have never tried Dankso clogs. I know a lot of people really like those.

Karie, those flats are cute! And they certainly do belong in this thread, because they are a comfortable shoe that doesn't look like a comfort shoe. :) I think I remember your thread about these shoes—or you posted a pic somewhere about them. Maybe you can wear them until they're dead and THEN send them to SE for your money back. :)

I'm not really sure if this goes in the "comfort" or "non-comfort" shoe thread, but I consider these more of a fashionable shoe than a walking shoe, so I'll post it here. I have two. First up is a pair of Anne Klein "Blanche" leopard print flats, and I wore them for walking all day at the Boston meet-up. The second pair is a pair of Sam Edelman silver cap toed flats that I purchased at The Rack while in Boston. This pair is falling apart way too early and SE said they would take a look at them and consider a refund (at my own shipping expense) but I am finding it hard to give them up as they are supremely comfortable!

What an informative thread! I would echo my Frye harness boots are also super comfortable for hours, as are my Aquatalia boots. Oh, and my La Canadienne booties too. Hmmm....there is something about boots in general that work for me. Less spots to rub or worry about a perfect fit since the entire foot is encased.

Cciele, there's something so nice about a pair of well-broken-in boots, isn't there?

Shedev, I went to the Steve Madden website and found those boots. They sure look like they would be durable and stand up to a lot of wear! They have a color they call "denim blue" that is really cool!

It's cool that a lot of you have chosen boots! I also find boots extremely comfortable for walking. My go-tos are the Steve Madden Banddit boots in black (wave to Desmo April) and the Miz Mooz Hannah boots. I've had both for a few years and have gotten the heels replaced a few times -- they are wonderfully broken in!

Suz and Janet, Sofft qualifies for this thread because they don't *look* like a comfort shoe, regardless of whether they are or not. And Suz, I ordered the Bernia yesterday based on what you said on your last WIW. There was only one pair left at Zappos in the size I wanted, so we'll have to see if it actually was in stock. I ordered a size down because Angie says that works better for low-volume feet. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I did buy another Sofft sandal earlier this year that is very comfy, but it still has a 2.5" heel, so no full days of walking in that puppy! It's more of a dress sandal. And that's OK, because I needed another dress sandal.

Born/Sofft can be good for comfortable styles that don't necessarily look like "comfort" shoes. Although in the last year or so, it seems to me that they're cutting them a little more generously perhaps to accommodate a higher-volume foot than mine.

I'm not sure they qualify -- maybe Sofft is a comfort shoe? But it's an Angie pick, too. So....for now...my Sofft Bernias. No blisters out of the box -- a rarity for me with my narrow heel.

My winter shoes are pretty much equally comfortable for a full day of walking. But faves include the Stuart Weitzman black booties, my Zara ink blue booties, and my Munro cranberry suede Robyns.

I wouldn't call the Okalas full day walking shoes, either. I probably could wear them like that, but wouldn't choose to, if you know what I mean. My feet would be tired by the end of a day.

Laura, those boots sound really comfy! I love the way lightweight footwear feels. Unfortunately, that is one downside of the La Canadiennes—they are pretty heavy. But they keep my legs and feet just as warm as my snow boots, so I don’t complain. I’ve always worn medium-weight wool socks with them and haven’t found my sock choice to affect comfort. I have sometimes put in an insole, though, because there is no arch support. And since the leather is thick, the boots did take a while to break in.

Avicennia, I’m glad you’re enjoying your Fly Londons! Just from looking at the picture, I would have guessed that they would be hard to walk in. Just goes to show you that you really have to try something on to know for sure.

Desmo April, interesting about buying the men’s boots. I wonder if men’s shoes on the whole are better made than women’s? Hmmm...

Adelfa, you look smashing in the Trinas! And thanks for your input on the Okalas. So far, I’ve only worn them to church, which doesn’t amount to much walking (only much embarrassment, ha ha, as seen on my other thread).

Carole and MRL, I do like the metallic sandals! I just ordered the Sofft Bernia, which were an Angie pick, in metallic silver. I have low-volume feet too, and sandals (or any strappy footwear) can be challenging.

Viva, I love those Frye oxfords! I can imagine you wearing them. They seem very much your style.

Janet, I’m going to have to keep my eyes out for some Cole Haan shoes. They keep being mentioned in the comfortable-shoe threads! And I know that others have raved about the Ugg Cortonas. I wish the Cortonas had a little less buckle stuff going on at the ankle—since I’m small-framed, the buckle detailing overwhelms me. Oh well!

Neel, you do have a lot of comfy-looking flats. I don’t have any flats to speak of. I keep trying to find some, but I have a narrow heel and a low-volume foot, so they just fall off! I did find one pair that stayed on, but there was hardly any cushioning to speak of, and I might have well just walked with cardboard strapped to the bottoms of my feet! :(

Gaylene, I didn’t know EF made footwear. Fluevog has some interesting styles...I’ll have to keep my eye out for something that will tickle my fancy.

Rachylou, you’re so practical! I could handle all of my shoes (except one) for a couple of hours of shopping, but even at four hours I would probably be in comfort shoes myself.

Style Fan, yet another vote for Frye! And almost ten years old...wow.

Faith, I saw those PG sneaks on the Nordie’s website last night and thought they were cute! It’s clear that a person generally has to pay for quality for shoes. I did try on a pair of PGs once, and they were terribly comfy. But I already had a couple of pairs of shoes that were somewhat similar, so I passed. The Miista metallic oxfords are TDF!

Beth, another vote for Frye!

Isis, thanks for the Okala input. And those Spat shoes you posted are fab! I haven’t seen anything like them. I wish my style were more androgynous sometimes, because there are a lot of comfy shoes that have menswear-inspired elements.

Almost all my shoes are comfortable....and I'm another one for whom the Okalas were a 2 hr shoe, not something I could walk several miles in.

One of my favorites is the Ariat Spat boot....I've had mine for 15 years. The liners are torn up, but they are going strong....Fantastic arch support.

I didn't get to your previous thread, Gigi, but with a bad knee, all my shoes in regular rotation are now walking shoes. They are mostly laced shoes of one kind of another, oxfords or fashion sneakers. I second Paul Green, although I would caution that, wearing the smallest size, I find that they changed the last to be just a tiny bit wider several years ago, and what previously fit me like a glove now requires an insole. Also on the pricy side among my favorites are Prada and Miu Miu oxfords, I'm always on the lookout for another pair to add to the collection at something less than full price. Another current favorite oxford are the Miista Zoes (sized up, for once). My all-time favorite sneakers are a variety from Y-3 Adidas and Alexander McQueen for Puma, although I was disappointed in the Vulcanizo model, which was heavy and flat. I've found that I'm rather hard on plimsolls in general, and have already had to give up on two favorite pair from last year. I resolved to stay away from pricier versions as they can't be resoled, although that didn't cure me of buying a backup of the below Paul Greens, because they are just that comfortable.

My fave would be my cutout ankle boots. On a sidenote: I could wear any of my shoes for 6 hours of shopping. Sight-seeing, tho, that would have to be a comfort shoe from a comfort brand for me.

My EF sandals are super comfortable; they have been a summer workhorse for me so far. And my Fluevogs have lasted forever despite getting regular outings. I'll wear any of them for hours of city walking.

All that I mentioned in your other thread could be mentioned here too .. Except for my sneaks ofcourse. Which could be considered gear. Most of my shoes are a few seasons old/cheapies/brands that cannot be collected hence I dont think I could possibly link any here!

These are my top picks, but I have a lot of alternatives, fortunately. These are the ones that balance fashion and comfort the best.

- Ugg Cortonas get some high marks here for me -- and I love that I can wear them as booties or full-length boots.

- My Lucchese cowboy boots have carried me through 8-mile days of walking around all kinds of places, and my turquoise Old Gringo boots feel just as comfortable.

- the DV slip on sneakers I picked up earlier this year. I have an innersole in them to help them fit a little better, and it also gives a little extra cushioning, but such a comfy shoe.

- The Cole Haan Bria thong sandals I have in black and in copper. So comfortable and versatile, I not only duplicated in color -- I duplicated the copper because my first pair were getting totally beat up. Now the original beat-up pair stays at the ranch in TX and the newer pair gets worn at home.

Adelfa, I am glad I'm not the only one who isn't a total convert to the Okala as a full-day shoe. They're comfortable enough, but I find that after a half-day of wearing them, I'm starting to be aware of my feet. For true, all-out comfort, I should not give my feet a second thought all day long!

I love my Frye philip Harness booties -- extremely comfortable for long days right out of the box. Also my Frye Carson oxfords. What is it about Frye?

Thanks for this post. Love to see all the other ideas here!

Carole, I have those sandals in all black (bought at Macy's a few years ago). They are so great that I bought 2 pair. Because of the stretch they actually fit and stay on my narrow, low volume feet and yes they go with everything.

I'm listing two of my all time favorite comfortable shoes...the sandals were recommended by Angie a few years ago and they go with everything..they are still available at Macys in a few different colors. The boots are Franco Sarto Panko and have been worn to death, super comfy and able to fit my narrow calves. I have a super hard time finding comfortable shoes due to painful bunions and these have been lifesavers!

Favorite? If I were going to walk around the city this Saturday, I would pick my SE Trinas. In the winter I would pick my Frye 12R Harness boots.

To me, the Okalas are more a 2-4 hour shoe.

I can't choose...

Steve Madden Troopah combat boots.
I went with the men's version instead of the women's, they fit exactly the same but the men's felt like slightly better quality. I've worn these for an entire weekend walking around NYC.

Steve Madden Banddit boots.
I think of them as my apocalyptic boots. I can stomp all over a city in them. I also have a version in black with silver rings and studs on the straps but they aren't quite as comfortable plus they are noticeably heavier. I call them my rocker boots and wore them on stage when I played guitar with my (one-time) band at my Ladies Rock Camp showcase.

For some reason the Madden mid calf boots fit me really well but I can't zip the tall ones over my calves and the ballet flats are torture.

Without a doubt, my Fly Londons. The Yalas made Angie's list of fashion forward sandals earlier in the spring. I also have several pairs of Yakins which have a retro vibe. Both are extraordinarily comfortable.

Gigi, your La Canadienne black leather knee high boots look sooooooooooooo nice! The fact that they are super comfortable for your mega long shopping trips or sightseeing is a huge bonus! Do you need to wear a pair of thick socks with them for comfort or are those boots comfortable with almost any sock you choose?

My favorite pair of comfy walking shoes, not from a comfy line, would probably be this pair of Croco Leather boots. When I want comfort + style and I am not wearing my traditional Uggs, I love turning to this pair. They are so comfortable I have worn them all day long, sightseeing and I am still okay. Perhaps because they are light weight and the double padded insole with sheep fur lining make walking more comfortable then a pair of Nike Air athletic shoes, at least for me.

Wow, this is turning out to be a fun thread!

Grey Rainbow, I have heard great things about Paul Green. They are pricey...but it's good to know that they are worth it not just in terms of comfort but in terms of holding up well with use.

MuseumGal, I once had a pair of Dansko mary janes that didn't look too comfort shoe-like but looked a little trendy. And I'm glad your Duo boots are working out! I may try them in the future. Good to know that they're comfy.

Joy, I've heard good things about CH and plan on trying them out when I see something in a style that I like. I tried one pair of Me Too booties last year and was amazed at how comfy they were. I sent them back because I didn't like how the particular shoe looked, but I should check them out again.

Aubergine, now I know why Fryes are so popular around here! Most of their styles are too chunky for my frame, so I haven't tried them out. And Clarks can have some nice stuff, can't they? I sometimes forget about them. I'll have to take a gander and see what they have now. They can also have some nice end-of-season sales.

Pastrygirl, so often we forget about lace-up shoes as an option. I'm half-thinking about getting the BR metallic oxfords that they just got in...

Caro, you have a very nice selection of different styles and colors. What a wonderful shoe wardrobe you must have!

Claire, I have no flats to speak of (my last ones were from Born and dare I say felt pretty cheap) and wanted to try the AGL because I have heard wonderful things about them. Price is my deterrent. I've been afraid to try them on in Nordie's lest I fall in love with them and take them home!

The AGL ballet flat hands down. They have kind of a cult following in the on-line reviews. They don't have a ton of arch support or anything, it's just that they don't hurt, anywhere on my feet, ever. The leather is so soft that they feel broken in the minute you put them on. Many people that can't wear slip on shoes can keep these on because they have gentle elastic around the top. This particular color (they come out with new colors/textures each season) is on sale, and you can find them on Ebay for even less once you know your size.
