When i first started adding bags i switched daily, but now i probably carry a bag for a few weeks or months at a time (until it really clashes with what i have on... then change for a bit) These three have become my best go to's:</p> <p>1. Vintage Coach bought on ebay (it was brown) and dyed with Tarrago leather dye by yours truly (BTW Grayscale, if your cobbler cant fix yours, this was pretty easy to do and comes in gray, black etc not just bright colors)<br />2. Green leather designed and sewn by yours truly. I have the pattern still and plan to make myself another of these from a hot pink hide i bought the other day. I like bags and get bored with just one. But, I usually have a "go-to" handbag that works with everything and that I use the most often. In spring/summer that is a white bag. Fall/winter, at least lately (past two seasons),&nbsp;it's black. I am right now on the hunt to refresh both my go-to bags. The black one is a priority because mine just recently developed a rip in the lining...&nbsp;</p> <p>Criteria:&nbsp;</p> <p>1) Hobo, slouchy style that is comfortable slung over my shoulder. The slouchier the style, the bigger it can be, but it can't overwhelm my 5'0 frame. My current fall/winter bag is 18 inch wide by 11 inch tall, but super slouchy and rarely is it packed full.&nbsp;</p> <p>2) Has to be a shoulder bag --- I do not care for cross body's. I also do not care &nbsp;for my go-to bag to be one I can only hold in my hand or the crook of the elbow. I have a lot of those, and I do use them, but the go-to bag is the one that I would go-to for long days when I need to be hands-free, like shopping at the mall, traveling, etc, and want a comfy, easy bag that can be slung over my shoulder and parked there all day.&nbsp;</p> <p>3) Cannot weigh a ton. I love the look of Michael Kors bags and own some but man oh man... a lot of them are HEAVY. I do not want a bag that is 3 lbs without anything in it!</p> <p>4) Has to be real leather, and a soft leather, not stiff. Current bag is not real leather and it's great because it is very&nbsp;lightweight but.... they just don't last as long.&nbsp;</p> <p>5) Needs to have a brightly colored or light colored interior lining. Things get lost in darker linings. Including my reading glasses. Ahem.&nbsp;</p> <p>6) No chains (I find the clanging annoying). Not too much hardware. Yet has to have *something* interesting in the design. No overt logos. Once winter came, I wished it was just a tiny bit bigger so that it could fit my hat and gloves. Along came the Michael Kors large bowling satchel, in bordeaux, on major, MAJOR sale.</p> <p>LOVE.</p> <p>It's all I've carried for the past year. I switched in the summer to something smaller, but couldn't wait to use it again in the fall.</p> <p>I still use my purse organizer in it, though it does have many pockets. I've turned into a handle girl, though last year I exclusively used the cross-body strap. I always carry it at my wrist or elbow now.</p> <p>The size is perfect and the color is perfect. I love the full zip closure that doesn't need two hands where one end needs to be tucked in&nbsp;(like many larger bags&nbsp;have, including Dooney &amp; Bourke).&nbsp;I'm lamenting having to find something "lighter" for summer. The color is a bit heavy for that season, I think. I used a hodgepodge of bags last summer, but none were quite right. I used satchel styles pretty much exclusively for several years but in the last year I've developed a love for clutches and added quite a few. Then I went through an interesting leather color shape phase, with great finds from Hayden Harnett, Aaneta, Junior Drake, Gererd Darel. Then like Runcarla I discovered the ease and simplicity of Longchamp Le Pilage while on vacation. That's all I carry now. I like the larger totes for most daily wear, and now have them in black, grey, and taupe. In two or three sizes, these make me happy for every occasion except really fancy. The black on black Plantes is my dressy bag. The hobo is my cross body, great for long days walking around. That is so my kinda bag!</p> <p>And no, my bag doesn't shift stuff around due to the relatively narrow compartments and my habit of divvying stuff into chunks of pouches. Only the identical-from-outside compartments get puzzling and the crescent shape means the zip catches unless I pull it taut with my other hand when doing up. </p>
