Kathy, you might want to start a separate thread with your question. It's my experience that often questions posted within a thread don't get seen. :^) I think maybe the best thing to do would be to use a skinny belt, as the buckle will be less bulky in general. That's what I do, at least!

I have just a few belts...I'm super-picky. The one I reach for the most is a skinny leopard haircalf belt from BR. I am on the lookout for a wider (1.25") cognac belt with some kind of design on it, but I can't seem to find one I like.

My favorite is a Michael Kors distressed silver leather belt from the men's section of The Rack. It goes with so many things. To use the semi tuck with mostly low rise jeans, I've had to find longer belts than those worn at the waist.

Wow, what amazing feedback, thank you all so much for sharing ideas, you've given me alot to work with as I head out to fill my embarrassing belt deficiency, lol! Believe it or not, I only have 5...and STILL regret letting go of a low slung wide leather belt in turquoise from the 90s that I would put to good use now, so don't part with you cool belts!

Does anyone have a suggestion for a belt with a buckle that lays pretty flat against the stomach? I'd like a cleaner, smoother look with some outfits.

Oh, I forgot to mention my beloved wide leopard print calf hair belt from Talbots. It's another that seemed awfully expensive at the time but has seen a ton of wear.

Probably my silver Michael Kors, an Angie pick last year.

I also get a lot of wear from my BR zebra one, my white Canadian Tire (!) one, and a plain black leather one from a local leather artisan. I just picked up two more Canadian Tire ones, with grommets, (Ceit has the white one) so we'll see if they take over the popularity contest.

My favorite is a studded/hardware embellished black leather belt I bought in Reykjavik the year before last. I wish I knew the maker -- it was not cheap, but it is really well made and gives a nice rock'n'roll edge to a simple outfit, plus it bookends well with black shoes and boots.

But I have an embarrassing number of belts, as you can see. The silver studded one on the right of the second photo is another favorite, which is funny because it almost got purged after I lost weight a couple of years ago. But with loose BF low-rise jeans, I find myself reaching for that extra length. I have a wardrobe hole for the perfect white belt that I can wear with lower-rise jeans. I have one that I love (far left in the photo) but it's just maybe an inch too short, argh!

Cindy - I am a huge belt girl. Since I have a black/gray wardrobe and a minimalist style I need the punch of a belt with great booties and topper to help make my outfit. My Wildfire patent and crystal belt is a total fave (pic 2). It's jewelry for my outfit. The first belt is a DKNY hip belt, it's full adjustable is size and I love it over tunics and dresses - as I think of it, it's my wardrobe lynchpin. I have a lot of belts but if I could only save two, this would be my choice. The patent belt skews casual and dressy so it make it uber versatile!!

I have a belt addiction so it's hard to choose a favorite (and I'm an uber fan of cool and unusual belt buckles, so have many).

So if I had to choose just one from the very, very many I own (the vast majority of which were thrifted or snagged via flea market and ebay over the years) it would be a warm caramel brown vintage leather one with stamped-embossed details along the edges. I thrifted it in SF many years ago for something like $8 and I wear the hell out of it because the warm brown goes so well with so many things. It is also one of those belts that has a snap onto the buckle, so I can switch out the basic brass buckle that came with it for one of my many other buckles if I want to.

Here's a close up of it with my vintage turquoise chunk and sterling buckle that I wore it on last week (excuse the hair elastic wrapped on it. I often store them on whatever belt I'm wearing and have also found they're handy for holding the end in place when a belt is a bit too long).

It's the Fossil Classic Belt - the ivy studded belt. The leather is very soft yet thick and substantial. I've had it for a year and it's very well made. Here's the link:

Some of my favorites right now are some rather distressed espresso brown leather men's belts which I got from the consignment section of an outdoor gear store. I think they were made by a local leather company a few decades ago. I generally prefer the buckles on men's belts - aside from a few skinny dress belts, almost all my belts are men's.

One of my most worn belts - in fact I have it on right now - is a thrifted gray one that may well be a men's belt. It's got a brass buckle and is definitely RATE at this point. It's just the perfect width to wear with jeans.

Until recently all of my belts were thrifted or from Target, which I find is a great place to find belts for larger sizes with style and a reasonable price. A few months ago I picked up a belt from Lucky Brand - a reddish brown with cut outs - and have worn that one a lot especially when I'm tucking or semi tucking. You can probably find pics of it in my WIWs.

On the other side of the coin, my second-favorite is a wide white belt I thrifted for a couple of bucks. It brightens up all my spring outfits! Here it is in action.
