As a short pear, it's jeans for sure. They're usually too long, too tight in the thighs AND too big in the waist all at the same time!

Shoes - like Khris and Suz, I have problems keeping shoes on without them being excrutiatingly tight - boots and sandals are less of a problem, although I still have very fussy feet.

I also, like Queen Mum, have problems with dresses - I don't work, but I'd really like to find a cool summer dress that is sufficiently casual for my lifestyle, but structured enough to flatter me. It's eluded me so far ....

Any type of pants/jeans is always a struggle to find. No booty plus belly = headache.

I have narrow heels but regular width feet, so finding pumps that my heels don't slip off of is difficult. Thus, slingbacks are my friends.

Skinny calves and ankles make boot/ankle boots shopping frustrating.

Another vote for shoes, and for the same reasons that Khris and Suz mentioned. Plus I wear orthotics

Runner up are 1) trousers - just not a good look for my stumpy legs and
2) Jackets/blazers - I am not satisfied by many I buy, though constantly attracted to new ones. I think it is the same issue as Brenda - even though I am not an IT, finding jackets that fit both my square shoulders and all of my torso (bust and waist), isn't easy.

Casual dresses. I don't work, so I don't need career wear dresses. But I'm 45 so I need dresses to have some semblance of sophistication. I probably try on 20 dresses for every dress I find that fits my lifestyle.

I was going to say shoes as I, too, have wide front feet and narrow heels, besides one foot smaller than the other, and arch support needs, and age-related fat pad loss, and can't walk in high heels, ... etc.

but Lynn mentions collars, and that reminds me I appreciate that the low low scoop necks and vees seem to be going away a bit, which is very good because my chest from shoulder to bustline is short (making low cut just obscene cut) and covered with 3-dimensional freckles or something with an unknown scientific name... in any case, NOT attractive.

Julie (RoseandJoan) hit it right on the head: BUDGET!!

But in addition:

Footwear. Boots to fit my calves (height and width) are not easy to come by in brick-and-mortar stores in my area and I like to try on. Shoes are rarely narrow enough at the heel. And I'm looking for the impossible—super comfortable all day walking shoes that look incredibly fashionable and funky. Yeah, right....in my dreams, maybe....

Jeans used to be a huge problem but I do not find them quite as difficult any more. It still takes a lot of trying on, however.

Shoes!
I do ok with sandals and boots, but shoes are a whole other ball of wax. My heels are narrow and the front of my foot is wide, so if it fits the front, it slips off the back; and if it fits my heel, it's unbearably tight in the forefoot. Suede seems to work better for me than leather, and lace ups work better than slip ons, but it's still a rough trek to find something.

Finding a good jeans for me are always difficult and can't stand wearing low rise anything. I like my jeans right at my belly button.

Also, I wish there were more petite sized clothing in stores that I like (i.e. Anthropologie, or Zara, or H&M). Can't stand long sleeved tops/sweathers that I have roll up.

Jackets. I love them but with my IT body, it's hard to find jackets that fit well and don't make me look like a short football player. Most jackets look too big on me even when I can barely put them on because if they are big enough for my shoulders, they are too big everywhere else.

That and I have to buy most things in petite or the sleeves are too long.

And jeans - finding them long enough can sometimes be a challenge.

Biggest problem is footwear. My feet are small but really wide. I have to buy bigger shoes and then line them with insoles in order to get the width. I don't like the feeling of my foot being folded to squeeze into a pair of shoes.

Minor problem area: if it fits in the rear, the waist is too tight. Not by a lot, but enough so that I need a waist extender (like a hair rubber band) to be comfortable. This is a newer problem because when I was younger I didn't have fat accumulating in my lower waist as I do now. It's not a lot, but enough so I get muffin top which used to never happen. It is true that as you age your rear gets smaller and your waist bigger. but you might weigh the same as before.

I have long, slim feet with bunions. I had almost given up on ballet flats until I found a couple from Born that worked.

I am also having a hard time getting things to fit my belly. I have gained a lot of weight in that area recently due to some new meds. If it fits the thighs, it doesn't fit the waist. If it fits the waist it is huge in the bum and thighs....thank God for a good seamstress.

My biggest nightmares (well fashion wise!) are shoes and jeans!

As far as shoes go, I have I guess oddly shaped feet and can never ever find the right pair - too short, too narrow, right length but the feet slip out. I guess my feet are outliers in India and so I barely have choice, it it fits, the pair comes home with me

And I am still on the quest for that perfect pair of jeans!

I'm curious to understand what items of clothing or facets of fashion give you grief?
