I have had a number of painful shoe incidents as well. Two stand out: the time I spent an academic conference with the back of my ankles dripping blood from my shoes cutting into them, and the time I got an enormous blister on the bottom of my heel -- halfway through a tour around northern Europe.

My wedding dress was also rather uncomfortable. It was one of those strapless corset styles which looked nice on but it was impossible to sit down properly in it. I could hardly eat anything at the dinner due to the squeezing and I was thrilled to get to the end of the night when I could take it off.

I'm another footwear sufferer. I remember particularly a pair of white sandals: they looked innocent, harmless, barely heeled. But they were evil. There was something about the heel placement and lack of arch support, the gave me monstrous plantar fascitis, calf pain, back aches, migraines. They were hell for my entire nervous system. And I wore them several times, I was a penniless student who needed white sandals! In the end I threw them away. No Red Cross, it was the garbage bin for those baddies!

I am not at all ashamed to admit I have thrown more than one pair of troublesome panties in a bathroom trash can (wadded up in paper towels is the proper way to say adios!). Sometimes, it's easier to do without than to fight with them.

My most uncomfortable items are always ill fitting shoes. I have been rubbed, blistered, bled in shoes and just plain took them off and walked on plenty of nasty sidewalks and floors instead of suffering another step.

RIGHT NOW I am wearing a pair of underwear that is poking me dreadfully. Somehow, the threads or whatever at the end of the side seams have sharpened and hardened to make an annoying point that keeps jabbing me in the hips. I can't wait until my meeting is done so I can get these off!

Angie had a post recently about uncomfortable shoes and I posted about a pair of sandals that tortured me. I was only 18 or 19 when I went to a fancy wedding in NYC and wore high heeled very strappy black patent shoes. They were beautiful but lots of straps aren't kind to my widish feet.

I was in those things from around noon time until fairly late in the evening. I was limping by the time I could take them off. I remember that even after I took them off my feet were still too sore to even touch.

Well, I've made many unfortunate mistakes with shoes over the years. But the garment item that stands out is a piece of Victoria's Secret shapewear that I wore with a dress I bought for a friend's wedding. It was like a pair of Spanx shorts, but came up higher on the torso. Anyway, it was a complete and total torture device. It made me sweat profusely during the ceremony and it sucked me in to the point I had trouble breathing! I ripped that thing off as soon as we arrived at the reception hall and haven't worn it since. A waste of $45, but I just can't make myself do it! Bad last-minute buy for sure.

I don't wear real denim, shapewear, or control top pantyhose because they all give me stomach cramps. And I've had some uncomfortable shoes. But this seems so run-of-the-mill...

Carrie Fisher says she couldn't wear underwear in Star Wars, because it messed up her costume. They made her wear duct tape. Now that's a story(!!) Lol.

I've deliberately blocked out most of this memory, so I'm vague on the details, but I recall sometime in junior high having a problem with too-tight jeans that cut off the circulation in my thighs. I remember going to the nurse's office, having anxiety that I had some weird health problem, since I suddenly couldn't feel the skin on my thighs. And it was simply that I'd had a growth spurt and the jeans no longer fit.

An underwire bra where the wire poked through the fabric and continued to stab me throughout the day. I was at work and not in a top where I could just ditch the bra and go "au naturel" - by the time I got home I was bleeding!

And too many pairs of shoes to even mention.

Stiletto heels, no doubt -- often accompanied by skin-tight, 0% stretch, disco era "designer jeans." This was in high school, and my high school was an eight-building campus (i.e., lots of walking.) In Pittsburgh (i.e., serious winters.)

Vildy - I laughed out loud at the image of your roomate as torpedo!! Gaylene - the name was definitely a tip off but the idea of you, it and a swiss army knife, hysterical!! Frye carson harness mules. Frye's don't fit me feet. I put inserts in because I thought they were so cool. I fell, not once, but three times, after banging my knees to shreds, I donated them. It took 6 months for all the swelling to go down. Talk about "what price beauty" or in my case "cool!!"

Laurinda and Una, you beat me to the punch. I had a very brief love affair with Spanx until I admitted the torture I was putting myself through. Those were also the years of control top pantyhose. Never again. Whew.

I was bridesmaid for a friend 3 months after giving birth to my son:) I had to wear a very slim line fitted dress in lavender (lovely I hear you say) and I wore sort of a shapewear corset thing to hold everything in..... SO UNCOMFORTABLE! Mid way through the reception I went to the bathroom and took it off and went braless and uncontained for the rest of the evening. You would not believe the relief! Oh, and I don't think I have EVER shared this story before!

These are a riot! My worst were the horrible girdles we had to wear to hold stockings up in the days before panty hose. In those days spandex was not around and there were lots of metal hooks and eyes to do up. If one came loose on the tight garment, it poked your stomach, not to mention boning. Then the metal garters bit into your thighs and the stockings in those days had no stretch, so would wrinkle on my legs and ball up in my shoes. In college I discovered the rather risqué garterbelts which made using the restroom easier but could still leave welts.

These are hilarious! I especially love the image of Gaylene cutting herself out of her undergarments with a pocket knife.

Mine was a middle-school fashion trend -- tucking thick Champion sweatshirts into pre-stretch-era jeans, then poufing it out a bit and belting the whole thing. I think there was usually a turtleneck under there too for even more stuff around your midsection. Ugh.

Runner-up was a strapless longline bra I wore for my sister's wedding that was basically a corset. And there have also been many, many uncomfortable shoes.

Oooh, it's a tie.

In high school, I had this corset that I thought was super sexy (and which, in retrospect, was totally terrifying, with about eight inches of cleavage and armpit-boob galore). I used to sneak out of the house with a giant sweater over it so my mother didn't realize I was wearing it (and I wore it to school, which is embarrassing to remember). It also gave me the worst acid reflux. The WORST.

For my mother's wedding, I wore the single tallest pair of heels I've ever owned. Never again. I nearly broke my ankle walking down a flight of stairs.

Back in the 90's, one of those early full body shapers. It dug so hard into my shoulders, they ached. Another that comes to mind is a pair of nine west black suede pumps bought at an outlet. Only worn half a day, and afterward I developed a corn that hurt badly for weeks. Have never had a corn before or since. Never again!

Great (and painful) stories!

I have two. The first was while being the maid of honor at my sisters wedding and standing with the best man next to her at the alter while this interminable minister went on and on and on and on. I think she and the groom were kneeling at the time? But me and the best man were the other two members of the wedding party and had to stand. It was outdoors and the hot sun and extreme humidity combined with the Spanx and some horrible tight Jessica Simpson pumps and I really honestly thought I was going to faint. It was a near thing. My husband said at one point I went gray-faced, but I refused to pass out on my sister :)

The other was hiking in the highlands of Scotland in jeans (stupid) and being caught in a rainstorm (predictable). By the time we got a local bus home and I unpeeled myself out of the wet denim, my inner thighs had chaffed so much that the pores were bleeding :(.

Jumping back in to add another, only about something being too loose.

I can't find a pair of no-VPL panties in my size. S is too big, which trust me is surreal to say. So I was working out in my slightly-too-big panties undr a pair of loose workout pants, and I am pretty sure my underwear wound up everywhere BUT where I wanted it to be, finally ending as a sweaty wad right where I wanted it least. Gah.

There have been a bunch of painfull stilleto shoes, particularly for the weddings and such occasions, but I am sure most of us had done that at least once.
However, I have one rather unique experience: I used to do a lot of ballroom competitions in the past , for which we wear special costumes with lots of rhinestones. This particular one had a corset that went over the dress, all stoned and with lots of boning. It made my 24" waist no bigger than 22", but it was so uncomfortable and I could not exhale properly that my dancing suffered some from it.
