These could be 9inch jeans on me. Even jeans toted to be sky high hit me lower than my belly button. I have no hips to hold them up. Where jeans fall can vary a lot depending on body shape. I am about 114 pounds with clothes on. Or about 110.

I just so happen to have a pair of "Levi's very low rise" jeans I thrifted and using for upcycling / patching
I measured and they are 8.5 inch.
These pic seem to be about that.

@awv1 I recommend having your daughter try on a few pairs to see what rise works best for her physique to achieve the look she wants. I like a mid rise on me but that is 8.5 inches which may be low rise on others. I rarely find any pants with this rise in the thrift stores in my area.

I would say those are very low rise, which are my fave. I also have a generous rear end & these are the only style that minimizes that. So, I only wear very low or just low (since mid rise has been redefined by marketers & is much higher than they used to be).
Belts will prevent any gaping. Also low rise unders so they don’t stick out.
My parents were good about letting me choose my own style, but my friend had to smuggle prohibited clothes out & change elsewhere.
Eta: low rise does not cause stomach distress, to which I am highly prone.

I like low rise - works for my short waist - but not super low rise. Recently I see enough options for mid rise jeans ( wide leg, straight, relaxed ) that suppose to be worn lower on the waist in a slouch-y style - that could work instead of low rise jeans that in the pic.
It is a very personal matter of course.

I am a parent and am uncomfortable with discussions of minors' bodies to this degree on this forum. I think people who want to ask these types of questions should keep them general, not specific to anyone's body other than their own. This is based not just on this post but some that have happened in the past.

They definitely look low rise. I have heard they're back in style, so I'm surprised it's hard to find new ones.

I lived painfully through the low-rise years, and I definitely sometimes had butt crack issues. My advice would be to always wear a belt with them--this helps.

Thanks for replying, Angie. My daughter is a teenager, and she wants to wear low rise jeans. She knows that low rise jeans are hardly ever made anymore, so she wants to go to a thrift store to find a few pairs. I'm wondering what you, and everyone else here, personally think of low rise jeans. Do you think they only look good on certain body types, and not on others?

I've never actually worn low rise jeans myself, so I'm not feeling so sure about my daughter's idea. Also, I've set a few rules for her. The first rule is that her jeans can only be moderately low, and not super low. The second rule is that she's not allowed to have a wardrobe malfunction, such as plumber's crack, while wearing them. Her butt is on the bigger side, so this is something that I'm worried about. Since she's an active girl who's always moving around at school, she might have to choose a pair that comes up higher in the back for more coverage. In fact, I've heard you should always do a sit test in the fitting room to make sure your jeans stay in place no matter how you move. Do you guys have any thoughts on this that you'd like to share?

My guess is 7.5 inches.

It's low rise on the wearer - bordering on super low rise, compared to the mid and high rises that have been trending for years, IYKWIM.
