i still love the prepster look, but it is just not me. the proportions are wrong for my body. the only things that fit are pearls and scarves.

my hubs does prep so unconsciously that if managed to convince him to try on something else, he will but can't get comfortable in it. he'll walk around vaguely dissatisfied but can't identify why.

I'm with April! I will happily describe myself as a modern classic dresser, but I would never describe myself as preppy. That just brings to mind long plaid skirts, penny loafers and loose crew neck sweaters to me. My dress in black '80s self rebels against it!

I think of preppy as very very traditional. Maybe there should be a new category for modern preppy!

I used to dress more preppy when I was a teenager, but I don't aspire to dress that way now. One of my daughters looks best in classic and/or preppy clothes. She shops mostly at American Eagle, but also at Express (for button-down shirts and slacks) and a few other stores. She liked a lot of the stuff in the Lands End catalog. I haven't ordered from Lands End in years, but recently got back on their mailing list. Above all, she prefers quality over quantity and has the figure to wear the preppy clothing style well. I'm curvier now than I was when I was a teen, so preppy doesn't work for me anymore. I also got tired of the look.

We-ell, the thing is, Jennifer Aniston is not preppy. When she puts on a preppy item, which she does frequently, she just does it *all wrong.*

Lol.

Well, Nancy, I love your style and I am definitely pro preppy! I must go read the thread Diana linked though, to see if I can figure out the difference between preppy and modern classic. I wonder if the elements I think of as preppy are just relaxed/casual classic.

Thanks for the link, Diana. This whole preppy vs. classic thing will never be straight in my mind!

Sigh...cinnamon, I sure don't aspire to be preppy. :((

I also think of JA as slightly preppy. But not generally in the way that triggers my allergy, which would involve navy blazers with gold buttons, alligators and the like. Curious to see other responses.

I read Nancylee's thread saying that she did not aspire to preppy, and showing Jennifer Aniston as an example of someone wearing a navy blazer in a non-preppy way. This confuses me! I think of both NL and JA as slightly preppy - not in the Lilly Pulitzer way but in the tomboyish/classic way.

So, what is 2012 preppy?
