Maya, that description of "wide set mounds of flesh" is a perfect description of me! I'd never even thought about a bra with seams. I think I need to go look. I actually want my boobs to be more cone shaped.

I see. All of my bras are seamless contour bras, then. Thanks!

Contour bras have a thin foam lining that give the cups shape. Seamless bras are all bras without seams. A contour bra is a type of seamless bra, but there are other seamless styles available that do not retain their shape.

Oh Angie! Bada-bing. She'll be here all week folks. LOL!

Maya, I'd be perfectly happy looking smaller. I think I'll take Kim's thought and just go see what I can find. But now I need to know...what's the difference between a contour and a seamless bra?

Depends what tops you wear, BM. I don't like thin or clingy knits. Some are more disappearing than others too.

Personally I have found bras that completely disappear to be a rarity if you wear a lot of thin knits or clingy materials. Wovens and thicker knits usually do not have this problem.

Honestly, I don't even care at this point if a little bit of bra shows through. Anything is better than having wide-set smooth mounds of flesh hanging on my ribcage (sorry for the vivid detail).

Beth- go try some on and take a few different tops with you to see what you think.
Biscuits... I do think the seam might show a bit in some knit tops, you just have to give it a try.

I havent tried a seamed bra on in years, but I know in the (distant) past the seams showed thru on almost every top! aagghh...is it still that way?

Kim! You are an excellent pupil. You got it spot on.

I'll add that they will last longer since the material isn't stretchy or collapsible.

If I were brave enough to have my boobs analyzed by strangers on the internet, I would post a picture of me wearing a top with a seamed bra, seamless bra, and contour bra. The difference is quite striking. I look about 2 sizes bigger in a contour bra, and much wider and heavier in a seamless. If you are less well endowed, looking bigger might actually be desirable, and smaller bustlines (C cup or less) don't need as much support, so a contour bra is fine.

A balloon of icing, LOL! Now there's a mental image!

I admit I'm not sure I've ever even noticed seamed bras beyond a peripheral glance. Never even considered them. Still, better lift and shaping would be nice as long as it doesn't give me cone-boob.

a world of difference Beth... yes, more support and better shaping. The non seamed really don't allow for any shaping.. they hold you up, but that is about it. I honestly think I look smaller in my seamed bras. I notice darts are filled out better, my breasts are more centered and I especially love how I look in a knit top.
I'm still wearing my non seamed bras, but my next few bra purchases will definitely be seamed!
Think of the difference between filling a pastry bag with icing as opposed to filling a balloon with icing... that is the difference.

Maya, I'm particularly directing this at you:)

I saw Kim tried one on recently and she was wowed. Do the seams just add additional support? Or is it shaping? Or both?
