Ladies, I completely love seeing your lists of essentials! I am going to make a combined list with frequency. Thanks!

ps I forgot my keys in my list! My home keys only have a car key, house key, and small flat fob. I keep a whole big bunch of work keys separately.

I'm an always-a-strap kind of girl--I love hands free! Chain strap or cross body for going out.

But my everyday bags are also on the small size (& I have a tote for umbrella, papers, sketchbook, etc for work) so I try to keep contents to a minimum, (but all my bags have to be big enough for the glasses)

I love my clutches! Although I won't even buy a day clutch unless I can fit my essentials in it, so all of mine are big, or even huge. :-)

My contents are:

- wallet
- eyeglass case (alternate regular and sunglasses - wear one, carry the other)
- business card case
- iPhone
- keys
- zippered pouch containing nail file, aspirin, lipstick, blotting powder, chewing gum, etc.

I've pared down what I carry since seeing a physical therapist last year. I rarely carry a bag on my shoulder anymore. When I need to carry more stuff, I use a tote.

Nice and compact, Adelfa!

Here's my list of contents:

Kate Spade wallet

African beaded tissue holder (I'm sentimental)

Business Card Holder

Lipstick

Keys

Phone

Pencil

Greg's wallet sometimes

Glasses case sometimes

That's all I EVER carry in my bags - plus a small umbrella if it's not a clutch.

Alas...clutches remain special occasion bags for me. Sometimes during the day, yes...but only if I have a defined purpose in mind. Otherwise, I need a shopper sized bag or at minimum, a cross body.

In my clutch, when I bring it, I take my phone, a tiny bag carrying lipstick and concealer and maybe a Tide pen, a tiny wallet for cards and a bit of cash, my keys, my sunglasses.

But typically, I'll be carrying: my Kindle or a book, a notebook (maybe), stuff for my daughter, sometimes an extra item of clothing. Sometimes my computer, too.

I use my clutches in situation specific ways: out to dinner, days with a lot of walking or museum visits, some shopping expeditions where I want to be light on my feet. If I carry a clutch, I put all my vital cards in a small case the size of the cards themselves, carry cash in a small zipper case, add my car key, lip balm, phone, and a small comb.

Although I have yet to completely switch to clutches, using them has changed my sense of proportion for other bags. I continue my search for the perfect white satchel and have found many of them are way too big for my present preference. I like being a bit more streamlined.

Ja, if I do a clutch it's bare bones. I ditch my kit bag and maybe my wallet, and it comes down to these absolutes:

cards

cash

insulin pen & glucometer stuff

smart phone

eyedrops

And I might drop the last two items.

I've taken steps to reduce what I carry in my bag every day, but I'm no where near the point where I could put everything in a clutch.

One thing I do is to put non-daily (or "as needed") meds like tylenol and anti-histamines in little plastic baggies. I just put a few of each in it's own separate baggy, and I then have the advantage of taking my pharmacy with me without carrying the weight and bulk of the bottles.

I don't use a clutch, but I frequently go bagless, and use my pockets instead. Here's what I carry when I'm bagless:

- cardholder (tiny wallet that holds two cards + driver's license)
- iPhone
- keys
- lipstick

I could fit all this into a truly tiny clutch, if the fancy struck! But at the moment I'm enjoying the freedom of carrying out my day-to-day activities like a man, since I no longer have to muck about with feminine hygiene products! ;)

I do need a proper handbag sometimes. It contains, in addition to the above, a bigger wallet, a change purse, a bit more makeup, my glasses (which I don't know why I carry around, because I never wear them) and a pair of sunglasses.

Things I usually carry:

Kleenex
Wallet, which gets bulky with spare change all the time
Paperback book (ALWAYS)
Umbrella if there is a possibility it might rain
Lipsticks and glosses I never use
Ibuprofen, band-aids, pads and tampons (always, too, and most of the time more useful to others than to me lol)
Deodorant
Pen and maybe small notebook
Bottle of water
Fabric bag to carry extra things
Scarf for air conditioning in public places (in the Summer)
Keys

It's no wonder it gets that heavy... of course I use a huge bag. I could switch to clutches but I wouldn't be able to carry my book

Sveta and Diana, I put my lunch and workout clothes in a tote along with my clutch. But then if I go out to lunch or something I have my clutch. It's even handy to bring it to meetings, to hold my tissues and phone (I keep my calendar on my phone).

Claire, my sunnies are prescription too. I decided that there's nothing in my clutch that can hurt them, and the clutch itself protects them!

Joy, I hear you! I have to pack things in a certain order for it all to fit!

Oddly I'm finding that I really like the feeling of carrying a small bag.

I've the same problem as Sveta. No way my lunch would ever fit in a clutch and I refuse to carry multiple bags. My giant sunnies in a hard case, umbrella, and my iPad wouldn't fit nicely either. That plus wallet/phone/keys and little sundries like lip balm is what I carry every day to wor and they are all necessary, although I do leave out the umbrella if there's no chance of rain. In winter I have gloves and hat too!

So my clutches are all for dressy occasions, and maybe the odd weekend shopping trip or something.

I have similar items in my bag, but the hard case for my glasses keeps me from being able to find a clutch that will close without looking stuffed. Now I'll be getting prescription sunglasses as well, but hopefully I can just carry one case and always be wearing one pair or the other. They are too expensive to risk using a soft case. I'll just admire your clutch from afar!

Over the last six months or so I've transitioned pretty much totally from biggish bags to clutch size ones. If I need to carry more, I toss my clutch into a tote rather than carry a bigger bag. This has meant that I've had to rethink what I really need to carry around. The following items fit into my smallest clutches. The other day I took out a larger clutch--which used to feel small to me--and was amazed at how much room I had!

So here are my necessities:

makeup bag with powder compact and a lipstick or two

a minimal wallet, specifically bought to fit into small spaces

tissues

a flat little notebook and pen

sunnies in a little bag, because the case is too big

and of course my phone

All of these fit without making my clutch bulgy.

What was I carrying around before? Hard to say but I think I remember an umbrella, sunscreen, a bottle of water, my kindle--oh, lots of stuff. Oh, and an entire pharmacy (I love the feeling of being there for my colleagues) which I now keep in a desk drawer, or in a tote if I'm travelling.

What have you stopped carrying around? What is in your clutch? Pictures enjoyed but not required!
