I found them very heavy and left them at the store. But I don't live in a climate where I need rain boots that often. I might feel differently if I did

We live in the high desert so we rarely get rain, only snow, and need snow boots, not rain boots. But we did need waterproof boots for a trip we were taking and got Muck boots. They're not fashiony or even attractive, but they are warm. The shaft is made of neoprene.

I thought paying that much for boots was totally ridiculous. Originally. But, you guessed it, I ended up with a pair. You need rubber boots here, you really do. Hard rains, slushy springs... And I HATE letting the weather dictate what I do - I'm a believer in "there's no such thing as bad weather, just improper clothing". :)

I had purchased several pairs of cheap ones, and none were comfortable. Fine to wear from the car to the office, but not if you wanted to walk more than a few blocks. I knew it was possible, as I keep a pair in Scotland that I can walk on the hills for hours in... wish I had bought some for here as well! So I went on a major mission to find some decent ones, tried on about 10 kinds, and the Hunters were by far the most comfortable. And I feel they look a little better than most for wearing to work. Which I do.

BTW, I see them in our consignment shop from time to time. I think they are easy to find at a lower price.

I bought mine several years back and I love them. I don't wear them as a fashion piece but I do like the way they look. I wear them when it's rainy and muddy - and we have a mud season in Maine, so they're quite helpful. I also wear them for early snows before it gets super cold. In the spring and summer on a misty day, they can go to the grocery store and then right from the car and out to the garden, which is really useful. And, you can clean them up to a perfect shine with Armor-All. Maybe all of this is true for all rubber boots! But I don't like the cute designs on a lot of other rubber boots, and these have held up after 7 or so years of kicking around the garage, so I'm pretty sold.

My daughter loves them, wore out a pair between Rutgers and NYC Winters,
and there is and outlet at Woodbury Commons NY, I was there in the fall when they just opened, great prices then and selection. Of course not sure how they have adjusted that by now, We bought here a shiny orange pair

I prefer Target to Hunter, honestly. I wear boots for rain and cold and muck, tho. No wading. The quality isn't better. A gumboots is a gumboot. They (Hunter) have a sister brand for farming, which is prob better - has cushioning - but they don't sell outside of Great Britain to my knowledge.

What is great about Hunters? Everything. I bought my first (classic green) pair in Scotland on a rainy Midsummer's Eve, and wore them for 15 years, in the rain, and with fleece innersoles and woolen socks in the snow. When they wore out, my husband surprised me on Valentine's Day with a bright red pair. When those eventually wore out, he bought me another pair. They keep my feet warm, dry, and up off the ground with their sturdy soles. I can walk everywhere in them, and they protect my legs from city splashes. I even wear them in warm weather when foraging for berries and mushrooms, to avoid ticks and poison ivy. It's funny when practical things like Wellies become fashion statements, but it doesn't mean they aren't wonderful!

I've heard that the quality has gone downhill since they got popular, as they had to move (all or just some, don't know) production to Asia and the quality control is less consistent. But I've never owned a pair myself, so that's just hearsay.

I do remember a couple years ago that they were everywhere in the 'hipster mom' environs, with those boot socks that you roll over the top.

Alaskagirl, that was my reaction when Bean boots went trendy last winter - not that they aren't great functional items when you need them, but why would you wear them when you didn't have to?

Hunters are my go to boots for dog walking in the spring and on warmer, wet winter days. I find them pretty comfortable for rubber boots. I've worn them to death and they've held up well. I wear them for wet and muddy conditions.....not as a fashion statement. I have the short ones in black.

I'm with annagybe and Diana - they are the trendiest footwear among the moms in my daughters' preschool.
Personally I opted for a much cheaper pair (in my finds below) since I don't really have many opportunities for wearing rubber boots.

They don't fit me and I find them heavy and uncomfortable. I am sure they are very waterproof but I live in the city and I don't go wading in rivers like Una. ;) Honestly I find ALL rubber boots uncomfortable because rubber is heavy and doesn't breathe at all. I am fine wearing my waterproof leather boots and patent leather shoes in the rain.

Plus I agree with Anna. They are too ubiquitous when worn in a non-functional way (like Uggs were a few years back).

They don't have cushioning. I got mine a few years ago when they were just starting to trend. I honestly don't wear them much & am far less inclined when I see women in Seattle wearing them on a dry day.

They work. I wear mine fishing and camping. I got them on sale. I've had cheap Target pairs but a bootful of ice cold river water convinced me to shell out. For regular rain you have lots of choices though! My other pair is Xtra-Tuffs from the Army/Navy store - those would outlast the apocalypse.

They have much more support than most rain boots and chances are if they fit you well you will love them.
They don't fit me well, and I found them heavy, I have Le Chameau instead, but my daughter has Hunters. She's had them for several years, worn them often, and they're still in good shape.

Are they worth that price or is this just brand name appeal? I have rubber rain boots, but they are not comfortable because they don't have much going on in the way of a footbed...no cushioning or arch support. I'd pay if the Hunters have some good internal construction. Are they like good boots that are waterproof or are they just "rubber rain boots"?
