I admire your positive attitude, Suz. You are a winner! When it happened to me, I was evil and cursed my fate for many days. Then I reflected on the fact that my disability was temporary and fixable ... and I stopped complaining. Like you, I wore mostly cardigans and sweatpants. I gave up the bra. For the rare times I went out for a short stroll, my aunt borrowed me a cape. I was lucky that this happened in an unseasonably warm March - I could sit in the garden reading and looking at the birdies. If I had to stay inside the house with the horrible weather we are having in these days, I would have gone nuts very quickly. :)
Again, best wishes for a speedy recovery and a virtual hug. And wishes to Max and Sienna as well! Poor darlings, they are so patient.

Oooooch! Jonesy!! That's awful!

You know, when we are stressed, rushed, overwhelmed, and/or grieving, these accidents are much more common. I won't say much about that except my accident was on Jan. 8.

What a terrible experience! I'm so sorry to hear about your broken collarbone. You have adjusted with style and verve and you look fabulous as usual!

I fell down stairs a few times in my 20s and it is no joke. More recently I fell *up* a flight of carpeted stairs (wearing slippery slippers--never again!) and hit my face on the door jam, breaking my glasses in half and giving myself a black eye :).

Poor Max and Siena.

Suz, having had the same injury in summer a couple years back, I remember well trying to get dressed. Ugh. Can't even imagine trying to dress for cold weather! I ended up buying a 3-pack of XXXL men's v-neck undershirts, cutting their fronts straight down the middle and wearing those. No bra, of course, which was horribly uncomfortable.

You have my sympathy and best wishes for a proper healing and a smooth road back to health.

What a challenge! Oof. Great to see you post, though, and to know that you are holding up well. It would feel so weird not to be able to wear a t-shirt (per today's Team X or Y post!). Stepping in to a stretchy cami is brilliant. Sending continued good wishes for your healing, Suz.

That does not sound like fun at all but you still look great. It does make you realize how hard it would be to go through life with a disability doesn't it? I thought about that often when I broke my foot and was non-weight bearing.

Agree with the idea of front close bras and button front shirts - my mom broke her shoulder a few years before she passed away and we went on a search for things she could easily get on. Those were the winners. Also soft and comfortable to aid healing!

I am so sorry, again-for your injury, Suz-this is hard. Not being able to function without others' help is such a pain...but if that matters i can atest you still look stylish during your recovery- great that you are having some comfy/oversized clothes for that. I did have to cut up some sleeves and buy new PJ and some long sleeves tees (all 2 size bigger) for my DH to be able to dress them over his cast. Winter coat was a pain but we still found something to wear in his closet. Hope you all (including poor Max...and Sienna) will recover soon.

Suz, that sounds challenging. You are still looking fabulous. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

My mother struggles with a lot of things now that require manual dexterity. Jewellery for instance. She won’t wear bracelets that have tricky clasps. My husband has adapted some of her necklaces to put bigger catches on them.

Siena sends sympathy to Max. She has also been enduring the cone of shame while recovering from TPLO surgery. Luckily she is past that stage now. (Although we still have to do the other leg, so it’s only a temporary reprieve.)

Thanks, Joyce! As it happens, I just ordered myself some similar items after reading the comments here. Some shorter camis and some stretch bralettes very similar to those you posted. Along with two new cardigans to try.

The Cat, thank you for kind wishes, and it is very dependent on the specifics. I need button fronts for my injury. My mother, with her arthritic fingers, needed pullovers. :)

Suz, I am very sorry to hear what you are going through, and I wish you a quick recovery.

Being a full-time caregiver (since 2020) for my parents has made me increasingly aware of everyday challenges--including those of getting dressed--that many people might face because of severe health problems or accidents. Thank you so much for sharing your dressing tips. I will ♡-mark this post for easy future reference.

If I can't move the shoulder for a really long time, but am allowed a little more movement than I am at the moment, I'll look for a front closure bra. At the moment, I wouldn't be able to use it because I can't lift my right arm that high to do the enclosure. I can't put earrings on, either (at least not posts, which is mostly what I have.) Or necklaces. Anything that requires my dominant hand. So for now -- it's camis. I may look foro some shorter ones, though. Or maybe a stretchy bralette?

Thanks for all your kind words, everyone. It is cheering!

Carla I admit I quaked at the prospect of 16 weeks in my straightjacket!! Your poor husband. And I'm a lot older than he is! I hope my recovery will be a bit faster than that, at least!

Like Angie said, I was thinking about a front closing bra. Some of these are also used after procedures and they are very comfortable, in organic cotton. Amoena is a good brand and the straps are soft and comfortable although of course the site of your injury may also play a role.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this - surgery of any kind is not a fun thing to recover from. I would say you are dressing better than almost anyone else would in this situation - kudos to you and your wardrobe! Sorry for Max too- cones are so bad :(.

I have the same Spanx pants but have them put away for the winter. Mine are bordering on too long - they aren't , but they are just too impractical in snowy wintery weather so I figured I'd bring them out in the spring when it's drier.

You look great even with a sling! Hopefully the recovery is going as planned and you'll be soon able to use more of your fabulous wardrobe .
I had a shoulder problem before - it took time, patience and physical therapy to heal completely ( so called "frozen shoulder" - hope it'll never happens again ).

Suz, the good news is that you will get better, this situation whilst awful is not forever. I hope you have a speedy recovery. In the meantime, you still look beautiful and so does Max! Wear what is comfortable for you and hopefully as you recover, your wardrobe choices will expand.

Dressing with a long-term disability is hard but needs to be accepted with grace. My mother had a stroke at 68 which left her paralysed down one side. She wore clothes that were soft and oversized and did not bother with bras but wore camisoles and stretchy tops (like the Uniqlo heat-tech tops) as a modesty underlayer. Unfortunately, given her severe disability and the need for highly practical wash and wear clothing required by her nursing staff, she mainly relied on statement jewellery, bright lipstick, beautiful perfume and weekly visits to her hairdresser to retain her sense of self. I always made sure I wore something glamorous whenever I visited her, which was at least weekly, as she got enjoyment from seeing me formally dressed. When I dropped my young son off for school, friends would ask where I was going all dressed up, no jeans and a t-shirt when visiting Mum!

I remember when I did this. The sling is annoying but it will be worth it in the end. Bras will be problem for a long time.
You look amazing. Your choices are perfect and it is great to have a versatile wardrobe.

Suz, you do look fab in your recovery clothes! I've had a shoulder injury in the past--nothing that required surgery, and I know what a pain it is to get dressed and even comb my hair.

And poor Max! I've had to go through this in the past with a couple of cats. I congratulate you for keeping it on him.

Your spirt is inspiring--and how great that Mr. Suz can fill in for you.

If you really need to wear a bra somewhere, how about a strapless bra?
I used to have a couple of them--it was possible to do with a bad shoulder. You'd need help of course. Just an idea.

I hope you recover quickly and without problems. And congratulations for keeping up your Fab standards!
