This is such a brilliant question elisabeth and thanks for making me finally face it. It's obvious it's not different body(shape) I (used to) fantasize about, it's actually mostly my own I wasn't accepting.

Frankly, after reading your question, I thought - I haven't got a clue! It suddenly became obvious how silly it is to want something else, but not actually knowing what that else is. The grass is always greener on the other side syndrome. But is it?

Hourglass maybe? I would have been equally lost at the beginning of my style journey, I guarantee that.

Now I know and accept that this is the only body I am ever going to have, I might as well do the best I can with and for it. If it means pen and paper and formulae to figure out how to dress it, then pen and paper it is.

In my fantasies, which i also try to shake off as they distract me from *now* and wrongly focus on *sometimes/whenever*, I'd love just a few pounds less to make it a bit easier to squeeze my perfect thighs in some gorgeous skirts and dresses I had to pass (and - surprise - the world didn't come to an end because I ended up not buying them), but as I said the benefits of getting older and... ahm... wiser are that I am aware of futility of wishing for something I don't and might not have.

Interesting replies! I've thought about this a little more, and I think that, to some extent, our physical selves influence our preferences. Or it does for me at least. I've grown to love short, crisp styles that suit my figure, and to shy away from long, floaty, ruffly things that would better suit a taller and more voluptuous woman. It has definitely become a general preference, too; for example, while I can appreciate that a particular woman can carry off a ruffled blouse, I still prefer the look of simpler, cleaner lines, even on that woman (i.e. not just on myself). Perhaps if I had the natural gifts myself to carry off lots of floaty fluff, I'd have grown to prefer that look to the more geometric one?

But regardless of what shape I were born with, there are still style elements that I think I would still be drawn to. For example, I'd probably always like little punk rock touches, like hardware on boots, a bit of black leather, etc.

Imagining I would be a long legged blond with cleavage, but with the same brain.....
Frankly right now I cannot think of something I would wish to wear differently.I would probably look better in certain looks that i currently wear.
Imagining that my coloring was different I would adjust the colors of the clothes to maybe softer tones and lower contrast outfits.

I love reading these posts! So interesting and creative. I'm extremely flat chested and I've always wanted a larger bosom that would actually show cleavage. I would fill out the tops of dresses and show off my fabulous chest every day. But in a tasteful way, of course

I would definitely be tall, and in my fantasy, I would have a wispy delicate figure (and a wispy delicate face and nose). I would thus wear all sorts of different things - primarily more mod/boho retro-inspired clothes. I might wear only shift dresses for the rest of my life. I would still be drawn to the same styles, but I would actually be able to wear them, whereas now I just look at them from afar.

If I was shorter and more round; I'd totally be into wrap dresses and waist-defining pieces. There are so many plus size dresses that I see in the plus-size section that are terribly adorable which don't come in my size

Hmm. My mom is always telling me I can wear this or that because I'm so tall and thin. This is patently untrue. I'm just stretched out in comparison to my mom. But if I were tiny and plump I don't know what I'd do. I don't see how that would change anything that much.

I wouldn't tho, I think, feel compelled to wear stilettos like some of the girls I know. I'd put on combat boots. I wouldn't want to go the delicate route.

I would be tall, for one. High waisted, long legs, wide hips. I would have dark skin and hair, a deep voice. I would wear shirts carelessly buttoned down, loosely tucked into jeans that would fit perfectly around my hips and behind. I would not need to wear heels, and would never wear them. I would prefer sandals, and bare feet inside my shoes because I would be one of those people who are blessed by never being cold. I would wear many bracelets together yet never feel swamped in my accessories. When I'd wear one silver pendant it would look perfect. I would put on boyfriend jacket over a tee-shirt and look cool like Uma Thurman. I'd drape my legs in a high-end maxi, then go barefoot.

....not a man, but a very differently-shaped woman? How would your style be different? Imagine that your natural gifts were the opposite of the ones you have. For example, I wonder if I would be drawn to different styles if I were a 6' tall full-figured Amazon? I'm not sure I know the answer to that question.
