Becky, no I have never had a jacket altered. I'm just really really picky and mostly stick to petites. I tend to be between sizes all the time, so I'll debate forever whether to go a bit smaller or a bit larger. I usually opt for a bit smaller because I figure jackets are most likely to stretch over time. (esp leather!).

For jackets, I have the best luck at AT, which is where that jacket is from. I think it's about two or three seasons old... I originally bought it as a second jacket to go with black dress pants for my occasional business trips when a suit is req'd. I was happy to realize it works just fine with denim too.

Angie - the cardi with beading is actually navy, not black. I'm in love with navy these days.

shell - I don't have any BR monogram pieces, because they don't come in petite.

You look wonderful Shiny!! Your outfits work really well. I LOVE you in that blue top. SO FAB. My fav in the new black cardi with the vertical beading detail. It’s perfect on you. Very flattering. Screaming for white pants and red cami. Adore the white coach bag and your hair is great! Well done!

You look very, very good and I can't see any middle issues whatsoever. I can't wait to see more of your outfits!

Shiny, you are my style icon! Virtually everything you wear resonates with me. I think I am seeing more how a well-fitted jacket should look by studying some of your photos, especially the black/gray checked one over the red top. You don't look like your shoulders are particularly narrow, either. Do you have to have the jackets tailored, or have you found some brands that work off the rack?

Shiny, you look great! I think our styles overlap a bit. The "too hot to layer" is definitely something I'd wear. I love it. And I love jackets too. I know exactly what you mean about the belly. After two kids, I've got the same thing. But isn't it so comforting to know that really you're the only one who sees it? Because I definitely can't.

The scarf is just some cheap acrylic scarf. I think I got it from Target awhile back. Actually I think it's my daughter's. We have three white scarves in the house. It's a thicker, winter-weight scarf but it was really cold and miserable yesterday. I could've worn my winter coat... but it's May gosh darnnit!!

I was debating between the white scarf and my DH's wool scottish tartan which has green and turquoise and navy. I wear that one all the time in the winter. But I wanted something to pop a little more so I went with the white.

We should call you tiny shiny even though you keep 'bragging' how squishy your middle is. Fabulous outfits!

1. Too hot to layer - so simple yet so chic!
2. ATL navy with white beads - I love how you wear it with top and bottom unbuttoned, it looks better than their models. I tried it on last time I was there but decided to wait until it goes on sale 'cause I bought so many already.
3. Blue ATL top - beautiful color and cut, I love the necklace too.
4. Ann Taylor graphic print sweater with scarf - I love the color combo and the scarf. What material is that scarf made of?
5. You look great with the skinny belt, the top is at the perfect length with the belt.

Maya, I really do have a squishy middle. A lot of it is loose skin from pregnancy - I can actually ball it up in two fists, that's how much there is! All the running in the world has barely made a dent. A tummy tuck would do miracles, but I am not going under the knife.

So it's all about fit of the clothes, particularly pants. This is why I don't wear low rise, and why I like shirts that aren't too form-fitting in the middle, or have ruching or patterns (which are another good disguise). And it took me awhile to realize my waistline IS tiny - it's just HIGHER. Hee hee.

Thanks for the compliments on the hair. Yeah, I saw that BR model and had to laugh. But I had the haircut first. I finally cut it short about a year and a half ago, after years of wearing it all the time back in a ponytail. The first cut, was a Pob (Posh Bob). I really loved it. Then my hairdresser disappeared, so I went to a new one, and they gave me something that was less Pob and more Martha Stewart. Yuck. Then my hairdresser reappeared, and gave me a sorta-Pob... only better! I loved that cut. But now he's disappeared on me again, with no forwarding info... so this last cut was done by someone new, and it's okay, but I'm not liking the sweep bang and she used those texturizing shears, which makes my hair want to curl in odd places, esp on humid days!

It's true the first photo (with the sunglasses) looks straight out of BR. The pants are BR, top is from Macy's, sunglasses from Filene's basement.

Pile of shoes in the background: I'm still in process of swapping out cold weather shoes for warm weather shoes. I only have room in my closet for one or the other. So my bedroom's a bit of a mess right now!

Oh Shiny, I have heard you say numerous times that you've got a little extra in the middle. If that were true, I would be a hippo! You look so tiny and you've got a fab waistline. Color me jealous!

Also, I LOVE your hair! It's so cute! I have always wanted short hair but it looks awful on me. You remind me of one of the models on the BR website with a similar haircut.

Some of my favs:

-The blue wrap top. I can totally see why you went for it now. It looks great. The necklace really pops over it. I have a similar top from ATL in red with long sleeves, but it looked really bad on me. It was too long and made me look thick. I wish I could give it to you because you would look great in it.
-The black cardi with the white beading makes a great vertical line.
-Skirt looks cute. I like the belted look (and the pile of shoes in the background! I have one too!)
-Those CH ballet flats look so cute and comfy.
-Your too-hot-to-layer outfit is so simple but very chic and clean. I dig the specs.

You epitomize simple chic for sure.

I just uploaded a hodge-podge of photos I took over the last two weeks or so. This is the first time I've used flckr so I hope I did it right.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....otostream/

I added descriptions to each, so I won't say much here, except included in this batch is:

1) an outfit inspired by the "what to wear when it's too hot to layer" thread
2) photos of new shirts from ATL that I bought this week - but with rumpled jeans that desparately need to be washed ... I really need white jeans for these tops!!
3) A really bad photo I took in the mirror, of a skirt outfit (can't wait for it to get warm)
