I have no problem going against the general flow - but only if it is comfortable for ME, as well. Sometimes the general outfit that people wear makes sense in practical terms. And to identify the elements of an item that make it do that. I think in my case it comes down to looking for more modern cuts. It might mean replacing several of my most-worn sweaters each year, but so what? These ARE my most worn items, after all. So if I have to pay a bit more to get a current, modern look to them - big deal! But I think perhaps we hesitate to spend a lot of money on casual clothing.
