I am also a tee gal and I look for elements that elevate the tee. For me that might be a mock neck, capped sleeves, thick fabric, ribbing. The main thing, from my POV, is not to settle for a neckline that looks stretched out (a lot of tees stretch in the neckline over time, some more quickly than others). I think it really lowers the tone of an outfit. I can see these tops working well and I support the duplication!

Great purchase for you! Well done.

I also like the “elevated” basic like this for layering. I’ve been slowly rebuilding a small collection of crew neck lightweight tees. I tried on a beautiful wine-colored merino elbow-length sleeve sweater recently and couldn’t get it off fast enough though, LOL. Just not a style that looks or feels good on me. Give me full length sleeves or short!

Jules , I like those as examples of “ elevated”. A different and durable fabric.

I love “ T shirts”! The basic style, primarily, with knit, crew neck, shirt or long or sometimes 3/4 sleeves, and fabrics from cotton, rayon or blends, merino, “ fleece” ( Uniqlo Heattech fleece T’s). They are essential for me in multiple colors. ( Mostly not black!). Summer of course, adding a light jacket for most any indoor, a/c setting. Transition seasons I go to LS, and I agree I need the fit to layer comfortably under jackets.

Tees and knitwear in suitable fits are GREAT to layer under toppers. Good job identifying what works best for you and your style, Jules :)

I'm so on board with buying multiples of wardrobe basics and essentials. Personally, i find it a wise, practical and effective strategy!

Those look terrific, and worth the triplicate purchase since a layering tee is so essential to your outfits. I am a t-shirt gal myself, so I get it. Sometimes I feel I could use just the right light-weight warm layering tee that isn't cotton. I would want long sleeves, though.

I really like these and if I get to a Uniqlo in the next six months will look to get them - not in NZ.

I am not a duplicator with the exception of tees tanks and layering tops. If I find one I like it makes sense. They are true essentials - the wardrobe glue that makes other pieces work.

Uniqlo is killing it with their merino wool items! I totally agree with you that a ‘sweater’ version of the t-shirt is a ‘step up’ from cotton jersey.

Last year I picked up multiples of a cotton/cashmere/synthetic blend sweater vs the usual long sleeved t-shirt I would buy. I couldn’t find any t-shirts with a fabrication that looked…for want of a better word….elevated. The sweaters worked great for F/W, but like the cotton t-shirts, the dye is fugitive, and they are faded after 30ish wears. I’ll get another season out of them, but I suspect like t-shirts, two years will be their max life span.

Merino doesn’t seem to do that, and if it doesn’t pill (which has been my experience with the Uniqlo product) you’re golden!

Congrats on going from May to now with no shopping! That's great!

I'm a big tee gal as well. I have found that button-down shirts can work for a casual style, if they are made of rayon, because then they are soft and have drape instead of the stiffness of say a cotton shirt.

I also like to duplicate basic items, especially those I wear for layering to avoid laundry bottlenecks.

Jules, like you I don’t wear shirt or blouses under toppers. I used to buy merino t-shirts in my basic colors to wear under blazers for work. Looks and feels good, also looks more elevated than a cotton t-shirt without a topper. I since branched out and actually found thick jersey cotton t-shirts but still have 2 cashmere and one merino t-shirts. I’m sure you will find yours to be useful and will enjoy them.

They look great and your description of how they fit and how they will work in your wardrobe sounds like you have made a good decision.
I agree with Star - they are quite different to my eye too. So it is not really a triplication.

These tees look fab. Versatile. I think it was a good idea to triplicate because in reality they are all quite different. I prefer a longer short sleeve tee as well.

My low-shop year continues very successfully: other than some local maker earrings purchased at an art gallery, my post history tells me these are my first clothing purchases since May! I continue to be very happy with my outfits but somewhat over capacity on storage and mental bandwidth and I headed into fall mindful of this.

Re: a recent post from Carla about how we define "elevated", I commented that I don't relate to the word. Yet here I am using it to describe my new items, a dup and trip of a short sleeved merino rib knit top from Uniqlo I already owned in the warm tan (golden brown?). I think maybe for me it's a relative term, where I have taken an outfit formula & item I wear often and tried to make it a bit nicer.

I have recently made peace with the fact that I'm a tee shirt girl for layering. Buttoned shirts are harder to fit and fussy under toppers. I am not currently wearing a lot of blouses or "shells" either, but love a good striped or plain tee shirt under a cardigan, blazer or jacket. I've been making do with various cotton jersey versions, some better quality and some thinner placeholders. However more and more I felt the tees cheapened the look and didn't live up to the rest of my outfit, so I sought to "elevate" them. At my "certain age", I'm not always comfortable wearing fitted wool in long sleeves or turtlenecks before true winter hits. These half sleeve crew necks are a transitional merino, ribbed and fitted but thick enough to not look clingy, and the right length for current pants even on XL, short waisted me. The striped one is also a great off white for my palette, better than my optic white striped cotton tees.

Owning any item in triplicate is pushing my personal definition of "mindful low shop", but fingers crossed I correctly identified a wardrobe hole and will wearing them often. The tee shirts they replace will get worn out over time as hidden layers under sweaters, lounge wear and even sleepwear.
