I try not to discuss those days (i.e. Rosee, the stripper) -- just kidding!! Wouldn't have thought of it until you pointed it out.

A little explanation. For those of you just joining this, the original thread is here:
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ng-project

Jonesy, the pictures are in the correct order. The original colour of these boots is the light brown or tan, which you are seeing as russet. Colours aren't coming out too well due to lighting, etc. The destination colour as of right now is red, unless someone has a better idea, and I'm open to those. So far, I've only gotten the original colour stripped, so they are looking pretty sickly, a sort of dull beige with brown tones.

Rosee, the stripper is a clear liquid.

LOL!!! I just realized I typed "Rosee, The Stripper". Sorry for making fun.

Anyway, the stripper is a clear liquid. She gave me some from her bulk supply in a smaller bottle. From the quick glance I got of the print on the container it is Spanish or Italian.

Lisa, I originally started out going from the light brown to any colour that would work with a couple of red mini-dresses I have. Looking for a good colour of boot to wear under faded boot cut jeans with these dresses. And, damn if I don't keep forgetting to post pictures of the dresses! As soon as I get chance, I will.

so far so good. patience is very necessary for the process to work. I'm glad the color removed so well, and the leather is still "buttery soft" -- these are good signs!

p.s. what color stripper did you use?

Figured I get a head start on this major boot mod. Took them to a local cobbler this morning, and explained what I wanted to do. He suggested I take them to a leather specialist about 20Km away and talk to her. So, off I went. She recommended I strip as much of the original colour from the boots as possible first, then redye. The product she gave me is suitable for fine Italian leathers. As soon as I got home, I re-read her instructions and started in. First plastic on the floor, then a large sheet. I used a soft cotton cloth to apply the stripper. It worked quite well, two applications seemed to do it.

They sure look different, and there's no going back now!! She asked that I bring the dye kits to her when they arrive, as she may have some more suggestions for best results. She told me this way, all the natural grain and markings would still show in the leather. As she said, you'll swear they are made from a red calf. Also, any colour is possible, now without the original colour having an effect on the finished result.

Took a half dozen cotton cloths and about an hour. The leather still feels butter soft as she said it would.

Any comment, so far?
