Hi gorgeous, Shadow! You look happy and peaceful. Hope that you enjoy the current Seattle sunshine :)

Kari, I am glad that your eye adjusted to looks that you rock!

I virtually like it ALL if the execution is spot on. But I am very consistent about a few looks that do not make it through my style filter:

- casual maxi dresses and skirts
- leg shortening pants
- overly short, tight and skimpy outfits on any age
- gear worn as casual wear

I used to have a very hard time with heavy make-up. It's still not my favourite look but I have come to appreciate it's theatrical vibe to create a particular style.

I've adjusted to midis (now my favourite length for skirts/dresses); booties with skirts and dresses; tucking; slouchy trousers; volume on volume; florals; flats and oxfords with everything; pattern mixing and cold shoulders.

My eye has still not adjusted to printed pants and faux fur vests.

Hi Shadow!

I have adjusted to booties with dresses and skirts. Also to NOT tucking...that may sound weird, but don't forget I am older and grew up in a different time and my mother was older still, so I learned from her and she always tucked. For a long time, the whole idea of uneven layers sticking out seemed positively RATE to me. I won't even confess HOW long. Probably until I joined YLF - not joking!! A shirt hem peeking out below a sweater or a jacket still feels riské to me!

And on that note, something my eye has NOT adjusted to -- wearing a knee length coat with a midi dress. I do not like that at all, even though Angie thinks it can work. I will do it with a PLAIN pencil shaped dress only. And even then I feel badly groomed.

I've adjusted to leggings. For years I swore I'd never wear them (I hated wearing them when I was younger), but I'm finally starting to cave. So far I've eased in with footless tights to help preserve my modesty when I wear short skirts. I'm hopping that leggings may be able to help me wear my summer and fall clothes longer and my spring clothes earlier.

Printed pants. I'm sure they look good on certain people, but I don't think they look good on most people. Seems to me like they bring attention to a part of the body that's not in the best shape and shouldn't be emphasized. You have to have a fabulous physique to look good in them.

Pattern mixing is another iffy thing for me. If you're not skilled at doing it well, you're better off not doing it. I see Angie putting together some fab outfits, but wonder how many of us regular folks could do that well. I certainly would not try it without consulting with an expert like Angie who has a keen, trained eye for what works and what doesn't.

Skinny jeans were on my no fly zone list for years but I adopted that one. I do like my cigarette pants more than my wider leg ones now but still like them all.

Surrendering the waist is something I didn't think I would do but the looser cut silk shirts have found their way into my closet with a vengeance.

I wear flats and low heels with almost everything. If I hadn't found super comfy medium heels, I would likely wear flats daily.

The biggest one is probably wearing coral/orange. I am even considering trying yellow. If I find a print with black, white and yellow, I think I will try. I have been severely anti-yellow for at least a decade.

I really want to like the floral pants but only a certain body type can wear them at least in my eyes. Chunky wedge platforms are something I can't get used to either. It makes the ankles look heavy. Then there are the skinny jeans/pants: I used to hate skinnies but now I love them maybe because I've lost weight too.

I can't get over floral pants either - I just furrow my brow when I see that.

I have gotten used to pussy-bow tops

I can't get the floral pant trend nor the flat oxfords and loafers. But I do now see the beauty in voluminous tops that move and drape well.

I know some of you have mentioned that you have become accustomed to some items like midi skirts over time, and I got to thinking about items that my eye has adjusted to or against over time.

Midi skirts are definitely something I've got used to seeing, particularly when the skirt just barely covers the top curve of the calf.

B. wears glasses most of the time and only switches to contacts when he's playing sports, and I'm so used to seeing him in glasses that it feels odd when he's not wearing them.

I've also become very accustomed to seeing low and mid heels to the point where very high heels, like 4-5" shoes, visually look off to me because of the way they greatly distort the shape of the calf and foot.

Skinny jeans definitely took some adjustment a few years back. I remember in college when skinny jeans hadn't really caught in in the US, but we had a large population of exchange students from Japan who were sporting very slim skinnies. I wasn't sure what to think at first, and so many of the girls wearing them had very slim hips and legs that I assumed the trend would never work on a curvier woman. Boy, was I wrong!

Obviously it took me a while to come around to the volume trend too, especially where it came to trying it myself. I also got used to higher necklines on me once I learned how to pair them with the right pieces to avoid looking like I'm all chest.

My eye adjusted against ankle length capris over the years-I actually used to wear them myself. I never adjusted to the very oversized sunglasses trend. But to my surprise faux-fur vests grew on me.

I still have a hard time appreciating very chunky and rugged shoes and very very short shorts or skirt hemlines. My eye keeps wanting to adjust something.

So what trends have you got used to, or moved away from? Anything that you have tried to get used to but just couldn't?

(Bonus pictures of Shadow added since I needed a photo to post from the Realtime app.)
